Thank goodness for drug and prison reform...what could go wrong?

“This was a very unfortunate series of incidents that resulted in three people losing their lives. The common denominator here is narcotics. All of this started over drugs, which led to bad, irrational decisions being made," Slidell Police Chief Randy Fandal said. "What happened last week is a direct result of how drugs can ruin families and a local community. We will continue to be proactive in combating the illegal drug activity in our city with the mission of putting the drug dealers in prison. Please continue to pray for everyone who was affected by this and that they can find peace during this difficult time in their lives.”

How did it ruin the local community? Sounds like the community won with 3 less addicts around.

What a terrible article

Mom dies of overdose, son kills people.

What does the homicides have to do with drug use?

Drug use may have something to do with the overdose...

Fair point. If Cox was also hopped up then this should've been added to the article. More info is definitely needed; however, based on his actions along with his maw not able to handle her shite I would venture to guess drugs played a roll in his actions. He sounds like a real winner.

What's truly sad is that a random victim who was outside working on his car got murdered in this ridiculous ordeal.

The guy that ultimately shot him was arrested for possession with intent to distribute for MJ and Coke... He was arrested in the ordeal...

But I found something else to blame:

Mom 43 and Son 29... do the math...

If the ages given are correct, the mom who overdosed would have given birth to the crazy son when she was fourteen years old. There may be more going on here than just drugs.

The drug trade creates hardened, violent people. There's no doubt.

However, that's more on prohibition.

So prohibition of the drugs causes bad things but you cannot blame the drugs?

The mom did overdose... The son may actually not have been hopped up on something and was going to shoot his mom's dealer? Who know's why he shot his wife, may have just been tired of the bitch...

Correct. No black market, you will clear up half the violence in the country. Prohibition protects drug dealers and their markets.

So, overdoses occur because their is a prohibition on drugs?

You are not being honest here...

Never said that.

No, you're not reading what I'm saying
Violent crime is related to the black market, not to drug use. Take the black market away, much of our violence goes away.

We will always have overdoses, whether legal or illegal. People will always use, whether purchased legally or through the black market.

Yes, I read it and you are still not being honest in the situation... The prohibition is not what caused all of this violence, when in fact it appears the overdose started the ball to rolling...

You cannot have one without the other in this instance... Sorry it does not fit your narrative...

Problem is that the black market will always exist. Is weed cheap in Colorado? No. I bet black market weed in Colorado is cheaper than store bought weed.

I see people constantly say, legalize and tax the F out of it. no, no and no. If you tax the F out of it, there will always be a black market and violence associated with it.

You want to knock out violence? Make a pound of coke cost $1. Sure, you initially clean out the overdose gene pool, but crime is almost gone.

Simple fact. Even if legalized the government at every level will want their piece of the pie thus keeping the price high thus keeping all violence in place.

Nah, that's just assumption and on the word of the police chief to hype the war on drugs.

It's been pretty much destroyed here, for pot. Prices have come down enough to where it's affordable

And they continue to drop as supply increases.
