Correct. He was saying that the MAGAS were trying to characterize the shooter as anything other than MAGA. Which clearly implies that the shooter was MAGA.
There’s no other way to interpret that without doing violence to the English language.

The problem with Kimmel is he always pandered to only one audience, the DEMs, and his boss, Disney, is trying to sell their product to everyone.
He didn't read the room, it was not a good time to make any statement at all about 1 side versus the other side. Leave that up to Fox News and CNN, not his show that is supposed to be a talk show with jokes.. It was a bad business decision on his part..

Firstly, anything after the word "and" is just an addendum. It doesnt clarify or lessen his accusation. For example, "I had some great food and got a tan" Getting a tan doesnt change anything about your feelings on the food. So lets toss that last part out
