Abolish Columbus Day as a national holiday - Yes or No

Today's the day. I'd like to see it done away with. We can still honor Columbus without giving federal employees a day off with pay. I probably don't want to know what the cost is to taxpayers from them to not show up. I see where it is in the hundreds of millions but no definitive amount I can find.

Columbus should be a mandatory 3 day weekend like Labor Day around the nation.
When I was in school Columbus was taught to be a great man and a hero. He came to spread Christianity to the new world and save the souls of those in need. To bring the word of the lord and salvation to the savages and spread western civilization to the corners of the earth. Now look what they teach our kids. They call Columbus a murder and defame him. It’s a crying shame.

Keep the holiday celebration but make the feds work - like most of the rest of the nation.
I don't ever remember getting Columbus Day off - that is until I started teaching back in 2000 - but then it was called "Fair Day" to coincide with the Rodeo and Fair.
Columbus was a seminal figure in world history. If anyone deserved a 'day' it is him.

I am all about removing some Federal holidays, as long as Columbus is tied in MLK, and Robert E Lee day.
We can add Ho Chi Minh and a Darwin Day for good measure if we need to keep balance.
