This kind of smug crap is just so emblematic of this country. People sitting pretty, and who may have had a clear path to get there, have no ability to relate to people fighting like hell every day.

Many, if not most, great companies of today faced imminent doom many times in their history, and almost certainly not because the world economy took a rib-crushing body blow that shut it down in a week.

He's getting roasted, but no nearly enough, IMHO.

Neck-bearded a-hole.

Not all businesses going under deserve to, but he does have a point, whether you like it or not. Businesses better able to adapt to change will make the economy stronger and more efficient.

that comment applies to poorly run companies; not good companies fallen victim to a pandemic from a communist regime

in other words, I agree regarding earnings-based recessions, but not this shite

Eric Bandholz is correct. However, he stops short of sighting disease, famine, and natural disasters as necessary evils. In terms of the big-picture health of the entire world, they are essential. Pruning.

Question: what if everybody stopped dying?

This isn't smug. He's just repackaging the concept of creative destruction

Kind of hard to adapt when the government forces you to close.

It’s also hard to weed out the bad businesses when the government picks and chooses which ones get a bail out.

he is an idiot, all it does is eliminate small startups and private business so the larger companies can hold onto their monopolies and crush any competition

Which is fine when looking at established companies in developed markets. If the biggest variable is execution, then it's valid.

In the case upstarts with disruptive technology, scrappy insurrectionists taking on deep-pockets incumbents, or any of a number of other "entrepreneurial" settings, the variables are FAR more numerous than simple execution, and a situation like we currently have is an externality that no amount of planning can insulate you from.

It's a valid point for mature industries and players, but much less so for "entrepreneurs" growing a company.

Its allows the super rich and powerful corporations to flourish in the absence of their competitors.

Everything dems do consolidates power to the top, in economics, socially, politically, etc.

He is correct when it happens naturally due to poor business practices.

Not when Govt forcefully shuts down entire states. Even well managed companies can’t survive that very long.

What will happen if this drags on for months is Main Street business will all but disappear. Good by local retail shops, restaurants, etc. All that will be left will be chain stores, restaurants, and big corporations. There will be no more “little man”

Another person making statements about macroeconomics and big business who knows little about macroeconomics and big business.

A little internet research indicates that he slings his wares to the masses of low-T urban dwellers/skinny jeans wearers who now sport beards. This does not surprise me.
