A mob of Mississippians - aided by the Sheriff (and the FBI) - murdered 3 civil rights activists.

quote:

how the three civil rights workers were arrested by Neshoba County deputy sheriff Cecil Price, allegedly for speeding; how they were jailed for hours without the opportunity of making a phone call; how Price chased them down after releasing them, catching the trio just before they reached the county line and turned them over to two carloads of Klansmen; how Schwerner, Chaney, and Goodman were shot and buried in an earthen dam at the direction of local Klan leader Edgar Ray Killen; how local and state authorities wouldn't even look into the case; how President Lyndon Johnson directed FBI Director J. Edgar Hoover to investigate; how the FBI opened its first field office in the state of Mississippi days later; how these federal agents helped find the bodies 44 days later, and ultimately found the killers.

Literally, citizens and state conspired to murder 3 American heroes...for the crime of wanting to help insure that black people got to vote, as per their Constitutional Rights.

Keep this in mind the next time you feel outraged that the CRA and VRA were passed. This wasn't that long ago.

Pretty long ago, about as close as 2072. Who knows what the hell the world will look like then

When all else fails, you can count on progs to dig up the past to scare those on the prog plantation about wrongs (committed by Democrats, no less) that happened a long time ago.

Progressive scare tactics don't work anymore. There is a great awakening.

I HIGHLY recommend the book "We Are Not Afraid" by Seth Cagin and Phillip Dray. The book chronicles the murder of the 3 civil rights workers in Philadelphia, Mississippi and tells the larger story of the civil rights movement in the summer of 1964. Anyone who can read that book and not be moved in their soul is dead on the inside.

Obviously being sarcastic, but FTR Chaney was from Meridian.

Yeah, not fun. But it pays to keep perspective. The idea that institutionalized racism just ended when some laws were passed is insane. If anything, the south was just ramping up at that time.
