I get the sentiment but it's less than a week of the pipeline being down. In practice the impact will be short and minimal

That’s what she said. Hey-yo!

In all seriousness, they tried to impeach Trump for what you are doing.

The problem is the media. Then then the politicians play off the media stories. If Colonial could of held the hacking news close to the vest no one would have even noticed. But we get the media and panic buying at the pump ensues which disrupts the local supply chain from the tank farms to the pump making the situation look worse than it really is.

Pipe has been down for five days already, and they are saying that it is “likely“ it will be back online sometime this weekend.

What if it isn’t back online by Saturday, or Sunday night?

It’s only Tuesday and people are panicking, stations everywhere are flat out of gas. And there’s a shortage of tanker drivers. This isn’t going to just wrap up and be done in a mere seven days or so. This “minimal“ impact will last a lot longer.

Plus anyone who is thinking this is just a one and done deal, is extremely naïve. Once something has been done, somebody else will try it again. Maybe not with gas, maybe something else like the power grid. Or any number of things. Sure, it sounds like Hollywood… But yet here we are. Hundreds of gas stations tapped out already.

Colonial is not even fully down. Only partially. Plus Plantation Pipeline runs parallel to Colonial.

What really concerns me with all this automation is a direct CME (or EMP). Strong CME's have happened in the past we just didn't have vulnerable electronic equipment at the time.

Media Statement Update: Colonial Pipeline System Disruption
Tuesday, May 11, 5:15 p.m.

Colonial Pipeline continues to make forward progress in our around-the-clock efforts to return our system to service, with additional laterals operating manually to deliver existing inventories to markets along the pipeline. Markets experiencing supply constraints and/?or not serviced by other fuel delivery systems are being prioritized. .

Since our pipeline system was taken offline, working with our shippers, Colonial has delivered approximately 967,000 barrels (~41 million gallons) to various delivery points along our system. This includes delivery into the following markets: Atlanta, Ga., Belton and Spartanburg, S.C., Charlotte and Greensboro, N.C., Baltimore, Md., and Woodbury and Linden N.J.

Additionally, in preparation for our system restart, we have taken delivery of an additional 2 million barrels (~84 million gallons) from refineries for deployment upon restart.

Interpretation: Colonial is meeting demand via manual operations while computer systems are being updated.
