65% of lithium batteries come from China. No country has more than 20% of oil output

This is from the WSJ so you have to subscribe to read.
But I thought this was incredibly interesting. IF the world shifts to almost all electric cars as a lot of politicians want, then China currently has an absolute stranglehold on the worlds power source for those vehicles.
Very interesting...

Any American lithium battery manufacturers?

The green revolution of “renewable energy” requires massive amounts of rare earth materials to produce the equipment/technology. China controls over 80% of the world’s rare earth materials sources/production. Thanks EO Joe!

Well aint that some shh!t. As I recall, China also makes the majority of our medicine.
Our politicians need to get their a$$ in gear.

Well, this is a national security issue. Beijing Biden won’t be able to admit that but it is a national security issue.

South America has some of the largest untapped reserves of lithium on the planet.
The dirty secret here is that any sort of battery production is going to produce a lot of hazardous waste. The reason most of this stuff is done in China is because they don't care about environmental issues like in the West.

And everyone laughed at President Trump when he wanted to buy Greenland

plug power, not a lithium battery
quote:
Plug Power Inc. is an American company engaged in the development of hydrogen fuel cell systems that replace conventional batteries in equipment and vehicles powered by electricity. The company is headquartered in Latham, New York, and has facilities in Spokane, Washington, and Rochester, New York. Plug Power's GenDrive system integrates fuel cells manufactured by both Plug Power and Ballard Power Systems and incorporates a hydrogen storage system that allows the system to "recharge" in a matter of minutes as opposed to several hours for lead-acid batteries. It allows hydrogen-powered forklifts to run at a constant steady power compared to conventional batteries, which experience "droop" in their output towards the end of a shift. GenDrive units occupy the same space designed for conventional batteries.

Bra libs hate an oil rig...you think they want a nickel mine in their hood?

Is that "processed/assembled" or all in from China. I thought Chile had like 60% of the worlds lithium production/reserves. China and Canada being next but combining for about half of Chile. So i could see mining in Chile and shipping to China then shipping to the US/EU. Etc ( yeah....environmental savings that process)
and Chile just installed a socialist bent government; so, it will be interesting what the US left thinks of their favorite governmemtal panacea (socialism) if/when their favorite climate panacea is screwed up by those socialist government policies

China has slightly more in lithium deposits than the US. Australia has twice as much and Chile has eight times as much as China.
BTW, Joe Biden is not responsible for the amount of lithium distributed world-wide.
And I know what many of you on this site are thinking: No, neither is Hunter Biden.

How much gas does it take to make that hydrogen and oxygen for those fuel cells?

Member when the green fricks (Al Gore) was pushing these:
"The compact fluorescent lamp, that controversial spiral light bulb, had a moment in a spotlight of its own creation, but that moment has passed. General Electric, one of the three traditional major lighting brands, published a literal Dear John letter this week announcing that it is dumping the CFL in favor of light-emitting diodes. The spiral CFL is, for now, still a cultural symbol of the green movement. It just isn’t considered a good technological bet going forward because LEDs are getting way cheaper."
I get the feeling the "electric" car with have a similar fate. But the a-hole politicians will make their money while fricking the country.

I used to work for a mining company and it always cracked me up to see the very same people who were anti-mining yell about how everything needed to be electric while opposing the development of a new copper mine.

There's a lot of lithium ion battery production in Korea as well.
I honestly wouldn't be all that worried about this. There are a lot of places in the world where you can mine the materials (the U.S. is #2 in proven reserves), and it's not an especially difficult or value-added manufacturing process. China has a large share because it's relatively cheap to do so there, not because they have an engineering or natural resource advantage.

I seem to remember hearing a story about a woman breaking one of those. Something along the lines of she broke it, knew there was mercury in it, so she called a testing and abatement company to take care of it. In the end, it cost her a couple grand to get it cleaned up

I’d bet all these politicians pushing for renewable energy is heavily invested in renewable energy companies.

But what is the distribution of reserves or lodes of lithium around the globe? I don't know the answer, but think that's more important than who currently manufactures the batteries.

none.
it uses hydrogen obtained from electrolysis. where does the electricity come from? in bidens world windmill lol
I am not endorsing them, but it is an alternative
