Take those two away, and many of the issues we see coming out of Washington go away. The 16th allowed all the major spending and entitlements that we see today.

The 17th took away the proper representation that was supposed to be in the Senate. We would have 64 Republican senators right now.

Woodrow Wilson gave us these two gems as well as the Federal Reserve.

Disagree. The 17th ruined Congress and directly allowed the rampant expansion of the federal government.

The 17th amendment also made our Senators more susceptible to outside influence from lobbyists and political factions. Instead of representing their states, they represent corporate interests, lobbyists, and political partisans.

I love my wife and she has never voted for a democrat, but I’m gonna say 19th is right up there if not worse.

This is the real story. They even gave it a name to make you think it's a government entity. If we want to fix this country we have to do something about this horseshite.

None of them can hold the jock of the 19th amendment. You take women out of the equation, and all these woke politicians that appeal to the feels never get elected.

Prove me wrong!

The Founders felt the concept of an income tax was so onerous, it took a Constitutional amendment to legalize it. That alone should tell you everything you need to know.

That 100 years later we still give the federal prima nocte to our earnings is deplorable.

If you REALLY want to be disgusted you should look into the history of Federal Witholding. FDR pushed it through in 1944 as an emergency measure to get money into the Treasury because we were about to go bankrupt in WWII (supposedly). Everyone agreed it was completely Unconstitutional but we had to win the war. Of course once the Government got the empolyers to send money out of your check before you saw it they sure as hell weren't giving that power back. Now they get to give you a "refund" of your own money and act like they are the benevolent ones.

No one likes it, but you'd be paying the bill somewhere no matter what they called it or how it was structured. Fedgov is going to eat.

Actually the dismantling of our Judeo Christian values is what is destroying our nation. Purging Judeo Christian values from our culture led to the systematic destruction of the traditional family. The traditional family model (father is breadwinner - mother cares for the children) is where children learn to respect authority, learn teamwork, sacrifice, and service.

I was there I saw it happen. Now what you have is ever expanding bands of angry young people burning down cities and calling for defunding the police. Once you purge authentic Christianity from the culture what you're left with is mayhem. Unity is NOT a trait of the satanic.

Wake up America.

Elections have consequences.

I mean... we also needed an amendment for slavery and the bill of rights.

Important decisions should always be made based solely on facts and logic. Women make important decisions based on emotions. That is not a good thing.

Here’s the problem with your take. If women don’t get the vote in 1920, they probably get it in 1950. They surely get it by 1970. Them entering the work force and getting educated was never going to go backwards once they started

I definitely agree that the 17th Amendment was a huge mistake.

Woodrow Wilson

His status as an awful president is criminally understated. He did more harm to the structure of our Gvt than FDR and LBJ combined.

Further, he too was a dementia patient. Look how well that worked out for us last time. Globalism, the IRS and the death of Federalism. Thanks Democrats, and your fake Presidents.

The 17th came about largely because some states got deadlocked on appointing their senators so the fools made it a popular vote. It should be amended to return it to state legislature appointed senators serving at the pleasure of the states and resorting to a popular vote only if there is a deadlock in the appointment. Or better yet, create a kind of college football overtime rule to force a selection.
