Oh my, the religion of peace kills yet again!
Surabaya attacks: 11 killed in Indonesia church bombings
PERSONAL NOTE:
A month ago I had barely even heard of Surabaya. But in April, I secured a sale to a customer (actually a dealer) there, after negotiations for the order had taken many months. I had mistakenly assumed most of that time that the end-user was in Jakarta. And I have been invited/contracted to fly over there to train the customer and end-user (I work in fire-safety now). I was pricing flights and trains on Thursday and Friday (note: ~$1,100 USD R/T on United and All Nippon).
Anyway, the distributor lives on Java, an Island containing Jakarta on the west side and Surabaya on the east side, a 9-12 hour train ride between them. The town he lives in is only about an hour west of Surabaya, and the end-user is the Surabayan city (or regional) government.
Here's to no run-ins with the religion of peace!!
Surabaya attacks: 11 killed in Indonesia church bombings
quote:
Suicide bombers have attacked three churches in Indonesia's second-largest city Surabaya, killing at least 11 people.
Around 40 others were injured in the attacks, which occurred within minutes of each other. No group has so far said it carried them out.
TV pictures showed debris scattered around the entrance of one church.
Indonesia, the most populous Muslim-majority country, has seen a resurgence of Islamist militancy in recent months.
More than 90% of Indonesians are Muslim, but there are also significant populations of Christians, Hindus and Buddhists.
The attack is the deadliest since 2005, when three suicide bombings on the resort island of Bali killed 20 people.

thanks!! I'll try to be careful. I looked up that there are 8,319,229 people in the Surabayan metro-area, so I like my chances. This will be my first trip to Indonesia, but my 5th or 6th to Asia.
The guys in these photos might be part of the brigade that I train there.

Our company does the bulk of our SE Asia biz in Indonesia. The Javanese are fantastic people despite what others may think.
I was in Cilicap refinery when Nurdin Top was on the run. They had roadblocks every 3 minutes it seemed and that made me a bit uncomfortable.
I know it seems ironic considering they just had a bombing in Surabaya, but if you get a chance to go for a visit or to visit your customer, I highly recommend it.
