How much does it cost to have someone do your taxes?

They charged nearly $300.00 for one and a half hours worth of work for my wife and me.

The best approach is to make an appointment with a few CPAs or enrolled agents and ask how much they will charge to prepare your return. The initial meetings should be free of charge. You are looking at a professional relationship that may last several years. So meet with more than one and make sure you are comfortable with the preparer as they will become intimate with your affairs over the years.

Some charge by form. Regular 1040 w/ no schedules is around $75.

Htown - I have a good friend that is a CPA in the Galleria area. Private firm, but they charge $100 per hour and do excellent work. If you go the private route, it will depend on how much work is involved, but as someone said earlier, they are usually more than willing to at least discuss approximate costs on the phone (if not in person) with you.
