Corn found in 75% of your grocery store
With that amazing dependence upon one product that came from corn subsidies, does it concern you?
I recently purchased some short bread cookies to go with my coffee in the afternoons. I look on the back of the box and the ingredients contain both sugar and corn syrup. It's so strange to me our dependence upon this one single product in everything we do in life, and have to wonder what would happen to this country if there was a corn epidemic, and how that would affect prices, products and companies in general, as well as our economy.

As long as my tortillas don't have it, I really don't care.

No worries, we've made them with flour, but I'm sure there's some corn in there somewhere. Corn has electrolytes.

well we are busy making sure that foreign countries produce corn for us instead of provide for their own families now .. so we should be okay.

I loves me some corn.
2012 was probably one of the worst corn years in history due to the lack of rain in the growing areas.

Well, for starters, I think we'd have alot less kids on ADD/ADHD meds. Obesity would become less of a problem, and people would have to start preparing more of their food instead of just taking something out of a wrapper and tossing it down their pie holes.

People get mad at the mere question of whether its a good idea or not. I think most don't like questioning it. Just eat it.

People actually eat that? Now see, that's weird. Corn tortillas... Who ever heard of such a thing? Next thing you'll be telling us is people can actually make them with their hands and stuff.

There was a corn epidemic last year. A great big arse drought in the Midwest. Corn prices soared to record levels. The good ol flatland Delta farmers with their irrigation made a shitpile of money. Prices at the grocery stoe soared. All the while Barry wants more of our gas to have corn in it. And the drought is still on. It's gonna be an intresting year.

You should read up about how much the biofuel agenda is fricking people in south and central America. Farmers are being forced to use all of their land to produce corn to be exported for ethanol use, year round mind you .. where before they would farm corn along with other vegetables, raise livestock, etc. so they could feed their families. Now they are taking minimal payments from the government and/or companies that buy their corn .. but they still live in fricking rural Nicaragua so wtf are they going to do with a few more pesos?

Here's my thing with corn. All it takes is one devastating disease to infect the Monsanto engineered corn, and were screwed. Think about what would happen as a result of not being able to get corn for just one growing season.
Sure, sugar is there, but think about the number of people growing corn, and the number growing sugar, and what would happen to the price of sugar as a result of an abrupt change like that, even if these plants could retool overnight, if they could. Lets say they could. The price of sugar goes through the roof, and 75% of your grocery store items are forced to have price increases, and the grocery stores put their markup on it after their purveyors put theirs on it. Companies go out of business, and massive layoffs start happening all over the place, and all because of corn subsidies and our dependence on corn, and that's just food related, not transportation, or so so many other products we buy with corn in it that would go up. Think about how many things would be affected, and it should boggle your mind.

I have read and heard way too much about the plight of farmers and consumers of the cheapest food item they can put on thier plates and the rising costs to the consumer. The US govt with its insatiable desire for ethanol in gas is screwing people left and right daily in the lesser economic nations.

Corn doesn't belong in your tortillas. It belongs in your soft drinks and water damnit.
