Fished two guys yesterday, one was a repeat client and pleasure to share a boat with. I figured his buddy was just a taggalong until we met up. Client catches me and says the other guy is a friend that makes youtube vids for a "Living". Ok, so what does this have to do with me i ask?? Well, they needed to make a red fish video and they needed me to help. After the fish were cleaned i was told the video they made would make between $2,000-$7,000. My question is, how do you get paid by uploading a damn video online? The whole grab the camera, film and narrate while landing a fish was goofy as heck so i don't see myself ever doing it but curious about the coin. My MLM radar was in over drive thinking about it.

I make a few YouTube videos every now and then. I haven’t seen a dime. I must be doing it wrong.

Advertising. Some people “pay subscriptions” aka donate to their GoFundMe or equal site to keep seeing their content. Several long distance hikers vlog their lives, give advice and knowledge, and cover expenses that way.

Sponsorships
Google pays if enough clicks/watches
Selling their Logoed Merch

From watching many of these types of videos because I am too cheap to pay for Outdoor and Sportsman Channel that is what I can surmise.

YouTube has anything you could ever hope to watch. And for the few genres not on there, there are other sites that don’t play by the same rules....

What was his name (the buddy)? Let’s find his channel.

There are some fun fishing channels on YouTube. I really enjoy BlacktipH.

If your video gets enough views, advertisers will want to place adds before, and in the middle of the videos. Some of that money goes to YouTube, and some goes to the person making the video.

They used you to make a profit and didn't disclose until after the trip.

Nope, i was informed of what was going down when we met yesterday morning. I made my nut, wasn't thrilled about being on a video but they were easy to fish. I have always given away more than i ever charged for in business. Try to live by the golden rule.

A local NW fishing guide and his buddy run a group called Addicted fishing and have 4 other guides associated with them do educational videos on you boob, live feeds on Fakebook almost every Wed. Topics change as the seasons change.

They've helped to grow their businesses through social media. They have a full time camera man and editor/technical guy on staff.

The clicks provide advertisement dollars to help pay their expenses.

They're very good about not giving all their info away while at the same time help people get in the game and become good at it. Although, they want you to hire them. Obviously.

There’s a ton of people out there that make a full time living off making videos for their Youtube channel. If your videos get enough views and you have enough subscribers to your channel, you can monetize your channel and Youtube gives you a cut of the ad revenue your videos generate. Saw something a while back that they earn $1-2 per 1000 views on average.

I've seen some of mulletman's vids. One where he speared a stag, one where he was whitetail hunting with an air gun

You can subscribe, but also some of these youtubers hav a Patreon account, where you can send them $ if you are so inclined.

A lot of sailors use Patreon.

OP....are they going to be dropping your name and bidness in the video?

That would be at minimum my asking price to do it.

There’s a ton of stuff that goes into it but if you have over 1000 subscribers you can monetize your videos. Value goes up the more subscribers, view counts, etc you have. Anywhere from less than $100 to some of the full time YouTubers making well over a million dollars a year doing daily vlogs.
