I’m considering buying another boat and looking at buying a new or almost new Xpress. I’ve read about recent weld issues on here but I’m not real concerned since I mainly fish fresh water with a a couple marsh trips a year and rarely put my boat in rough water. I’m looking at buying a 18-20 ft center console with a 90 or 115 Yamaha. My question is - how is the ride in the hyper lift series compared to the explorer series? Is it worth the extra money? I’ve ridden in an explorer model which is just a modified v and I can deal with that, but if the ride quality in the hyper lift is noticeably different, I’ll consider paying extra.

If there’s any other brands I should consider, I’m open to recommendations. Something in the same price range. I’m not in a rush to buy. Just starting to do my research on them.

I’ve heard good things about them but I’m assuming the prices are higher b/c of the name. I’m going to look at them too. Lakesport, Lowe, and Alumacraft have center consoles but I haven’t heard much about them. I know Xpress has been reliable for the most part.

I would be. I don't know how much of an issue it is, but there is no way I'm buying from a manufacturer if I believe they have problems that big

I have 17' Alweld, rides pretty good. I had it in Lake Boudreaux last Saturday and it was pretty rough. I was only able to run abooht 16-20 MPH but no body was going fast that day.

Don't look past Ranger, they about the same price as an Express.

I’m going to read up more about it and see what models were having the issues. I’ve never heard about Xpress having issues until recently but I haven’t been in the market for a while. Seems they’d fix the problem quick. I’m assuming the ones having these issues are pretty tough on them. The places I fish, I’ve fished with a riveted bateau for years with no problems. Just need the size b/c I have 2 kids and a wife that go with me most of the time.

I think the issue has been blown out of proportion by internet. Plenty of xpress boats running around out there without issur

In the size boat that you are looking. Absolutely go look at those rangers.

Xpress prices have gotten ridiculous. They are not the value that they once were.

Even if you baby yours and don't have any issues, if the problem was wide spread enough (I don't think it is) it could affect the resale value. Even unfounded rumors can affect resale.

A good friend has an Express (not sure what model) and he was complaining about it not wanting to turn in reverse. I thought he was exaggerating the issue until I drove it one day. I was trying to maneuver the boat to get it on the trailer and, in reverse, it just wouldn't respond to the helm like it should. Tracks great in a hard high speed turn. I think the way the hull bites the water has something to do with it not turning in reverse. Other than that, I love the boat.

I've had 3 Xpress boats, each one larger than the previous boat. The last was X19 w/200 HPDI. It was approx 1 foot wider, & longer than the H56 before it. The ride was terrible compared to the H56. Both had the Hyper Lift hull, but I believe that the wider hull didn't have enough deadrise to cut through the waves.

I've since owned 2 Skeeter 'glass boats, and find the ride & handling far superior to the aluminum Xpress hull..

Interesting. Now that I think about it, my 16 ft Xpress I had was hard to turn in reverse. I guess at the time I figured all aluminum boats did that.

Their weld issues aren’t recent but ongoing and resale sucks because of this. Fished a client Saturday that has a friend with a new express with bad welds in the front deck. Warranty requires a trip back to factory for the fix. Find a real al boat made in Louisiana and buy once.

I grew up fishing out of aluminum boats and now have a 18 ft fiberglass bay boat I bought for the high sides and floor space for my 2 young kids. The ride is way better than any aluminum I’ve ridden in but I like fishing in flooded timber in an oxbow off the MS River and think an aluminum boat would a better buy for me.

Didn’t know about having to send it it back to the factory to get fixed. That might be a deal breaker by itself. Thanks for the info.

I seen a post the other day on a war eagle. It looked like a top notch sled. I had a xpress h20 and wasn't a fan of it.

Just from what I’ve seen online, they look great. Going to call around to get prices tomorrow and go look at some this week.

Was out last Saturday in friend's 2016 Ranger RP 190 (now called RB 190). If I had the money to shell out on it I wouldn't hesitate. Yamaha sho 115, plenty of storage, big live well, stable, good non-slip surface, easy to tow (light). A well designed boat that's well worth the money. With 3 people we topped out a 45mph quickly. I was very impressed.
