Once again, I have not learned from the last dozen times I picked a day to go fishing that was supposed to be the best weather forecast of the week. It was Yesterday. The prediction was for once again 1 to 2 foot seas except around occasional spotty thunderstorms. All my apps said go.

What I actually found was a solid 3 to 5 foot seas with ridiculous 6 to 7 foot rollers. (Don’t give me shite about not properly estimating wave height I’m too old for it. When my boat completely comes out of the water and I can hear the prop spin when barely rolling through at 10-15 knots that’s a freaking 6 footer minimum) it happened multiple times. I almost lost my fishing buddy and gear multiple times. And to make matters more interesting there was no rhyme or reason to the freaking wind direction or even the wave direction, often these big rollers just came out of nowhere.

To make it more fun, fish were MIA until 6pm (full moon) we caught our few snapper and got the hell out of there. If it’s really worse today if Sunday don’t even think about it. I was totally exhausted to begin with having been up half the night screwing with a damn flat tire on the trailer, and this is the kind of weather wait and seas Where you can seriously injure yourself, somebody else, or potentially get swamped . My bilge pump was working overtime as waves crash over the bow and the stern and on occasion.

Be careful This is the kind of shite were you need your wits about it at all times. Feeling it today.

Where did you go? I was in the gulf part of the day, no 3 to 5 foot seas, definitely no 6 to 7 foot rollers. There were pop up storms with surprisingly little wind associated with them. I think the forecast was a little less wind than experienced, but not by much. Maybe you were in a different Gulf?

Weather doesn't look good again until Thursday, MAYBE Wednesday. I am dragging my boat down Wednesday with plans to fish Thursday, if the weather looks good Wednesday afternoon I'll drop her in and try things out.

23 footer. I was SE of Dauphin island yesterday. It was crazy. All the other boats out by me where all other idiots in 26 footer or smaller too, I should have know better after my charter boat buddies said it was 3-5 but by that time I was halfway out and my buddy was determined to go out.

Ah, I was in the great state of Louisiana™. No snapper fishing, but plenty of island hopping Thursday and Friday. Good luck, I find windfinder to be the easiest to use source and they have two forecast models they follow so you can compare them. They are rarely spot on, I just assume at least 50% more wind than they forecast so anything above 10mph consistently I just head to the marsh unless conditions look good when I am on the water. That bit me in the arse one time, NO wind at launch, by time I hit the outside must have been 15-20mph winds and a big chop in the MRGO.

Damn, a tuthilltiger post that is not wildly embellished. It was snotty out there yesterday and today, 3-5’. Hard east wind pushing into all that river water coming out of Mobile Bay made it worse. No way in hell would I have run east into it.

Yeah that damn storm sat on top of mobile bay yesterday, every decision we made yesterday was the wrong one and or stupid. I launched on the island instead of billy goat, and paid for that as got the crap beat out if me in the bay, ( it was like this damn storm cloud was following my boat lol), went out into shite when my buddy told me another charter limited on Semes tank, and then took canal back and after moving over to the right to be courteous to another bigger boat, hit that new sandbar in the middle of canal by the breach, ( which my gps says is 6 foot plus). I was warned about it last trip but was exhausted and forgot but damn are they going to put some poles or something on that? The guys that were nice enough to give me quick pull off said it snagging people tons on people daily. On the positive side that water rips through there now like a river and my buddy that lives there said you can load up on redfish on those big holes on the bend. Mullet were filling up the flats as we turned that last left corner.

It is very frustrating. I went Thursday, because it was forecast to be a good day with spotty showers and reasonable wind out of the southeast. There were thunderstorms everywhere in the Myrtle Grove area; they were strong and persistent. I was able to fish, but I did not make the run to Long Bay like I wanted to. I went home early.

In a 23 foot boat that is not a great forecast, the storms not only increase wind they create short wavelengths and confused seas that will kick your azz. I use NOAA website primarily but also cross reference to FishWeather stations. Sometimes their wind models show areas or pockets of lower winds.

No offense to you or your bad luck, but the weather patterns here lately have sucked arse. Everywhere. It’s not even typical summer weather with afternoon pop up t storms. It’s rain all damn day. The pop up “showers” are deluge storms that happen just as easily at 7am as they do at 2pm

I cant remember a start to a summer with this kind of weather patterns.

frick this year is all I can say.

We’d have been out to the Chandeleurs or waaay down South Biloxi Marsh a few times now. We’ve tried twice and got the shite beat out of us both times.

Same goes for motorcycle weather- I normally ride to work 1-2x each week- this rain has kept me off my bike since the fall.

frick all of it.

It was shite weather this weekend- we went look at the lowriders and ghey squats at Scrapin instead.

Same. I made 1 attempt at a fishing trip to the Biloxi Marsh in early May. 20mph winds and muddy water. Waste of 40gal gas.

Ain’t that the truth- Memorial Day weekend, I subjected my whole family to ABSOLUTE torture and struggled to get down to around Conkey Cove looking/hoping/praying for clean water.

Never again.

As mentioned already, I find Windfinder to be the most accurate.
