Was at the range the other day towards the end of the day. The retired old timer who cleans up the range sweeps up the spent shells after everyone leaves camp up with his push broom and a little Mossberg box holding a 715P 22LR pistol in some type of duck commander camo pattern. I noticed immediately he had put some type of cheap vertical fore-grip on his pistol making it a AOW and illegal as hell without a proper tax stamp. Do you say something or mind your own business?

Maybe he had the stamp?

retired old timer who works at a range, therefore is likely just an enthusiast... let him be. He probably has more experience that you think you have

ETA: if he was illegal don't you think the owners/manager of the range would tell him something as to no be liable for anything?

you might say something like, That thing looks sweet, how long did it take to get the tax stamp?

Subtle, but lets him know something is up

I would maybe just ask something like "how long did it take for your stamp to get approved?" If he answers with "what?" just mention you might want to take the foregrip off.

If this was at the FRP range on Choctaw, the "retired old guy" would be Don.
If it's him, trust me, he has a stamp for that.

Public range on national forrest land. No one actively manages it.

I don't generally confront people with firearms in their hands.

And I really don't care what kinds of guns people shoot at the range.

So the answer is "no" I wouldn't say anything.

No I would ask him if I could shoot it.

One final thought. His gun is "illegal" for an entirely stupid reason.

It isn't like he's out there firing an RPG down range. It's as simple as a pistol with a foregrip.

I can't stand someone at a gun range who wants to act like a know-it-all. For that reason I'm going to keep my own mouth shut and just assume that they have their shite together.

If they don't, it's not on me.

You could report him to the Gestapo. The regime would appreciate it.

OR

You could keep your mouth closed and become part of the Resistance.

Personally, I would mind my own business, after having profiled the Citizen and determined that he is merely exercising his 2nd Amendment God given rights.

I bring NFA items to the range all the time. I have never been asked for a stamp even though I have them for everything I own. You should mind your own business.

Are you the ATF? I don't show my stamps to anyone but them. If you don't show me identification, my response is usually, "Nah, I don't collect stamps."

I wouldn't say anything. I typically won't question or tell someone what to do with their life when they are holding a gun....

If somebody came up to me and told me my SBR was illegal I would politely tell them to frick off and mind their own business. Don't be a prick and assume somebody's stuff is illegal.
