Worm composting info

I'm interested in starting some worm composting with Nightcrawlers (the European type). I want to use the soil for future gardens as well as taking out some of the night crawlers every now and then when I go fishing. I don't have too much leftover food since I'm living by myself and don't eat many veggies. I have a no bag push mower so grass clippings aren't collected. Worms eat paper and cardboard right?

When I was young we would toss the old coffee grounds in a 5x5 area of leaves and dirt. Earthworms thrived in that mixture. it provided us with all the fishing worms we needed.

Mow your yard in a circle with the clippin discharge to the inside of the circle. You will be able to rake up the leftover clippings very easily.

I saw a stack of about 4 racks that were made of of 2x4s, I think measuring 2 feet square. Each rack had a mesh wire screen. The guy took the top rack shook the compost out and only the worms were left. He had more worms than I could count. I asked him about the other three racks, he said those were for serious fishing days. The compost looked like soil, leaves, wood, and leftover food scraps.

It should be easy, they are worms, not tigers or some shite. I have heard that red worms work the best for farming. Go find a horse barn, and see if they will let you have some manure, best shite you can get (pun intended). I've found worms around our horse barn that look like small snakes.

Some cities give away free mulch, made from the yard waste they pick up. Use that, and in the fall pick up bags of eaves from your neighbors. Mix it all up and wet frequently.

Just ordered 1lb of european nightcrawlers. I'll be going to Wally World tomorrow to get a couple Rubbermaid plastic bins to make my own towers.

I used to feed them cornmeal. I'd sprinkle the cornmeal on top of the dirt and then cover it with layers of wet newspaper.
I kept mine in the garage. I learned the hard way to keep a small light above the box. Otherwise, the worms will all crawl away at night and you'll end up with a box of dirt and no worms like I did one time.

Hahaha! You could also try just keeping a lid on it.
