Do you split it green or seasoned?

I have a hydraulic splitter so I don't really care. But I will say I always go for trees that were knocked down sometime ago. So most of the wood that I am cutting and splitting is fairly well seasoned before even split

I try to split it when it's dried out. Ain't near as heavy.

Depends on the kind of wood.
Some oak is almost impossible to split dry with an ax

Up until this year I would split all wood by hand. Oak is easy to split green. Hickory, elm or pecan I would let dry a little if it was twisted at all.

When I turned 45 I got a hydraulic log splitter and don't care now.

Recommend a budget level woodsplitter? Maybe split a cord or two a year for personal consumption?

Harbor Freght got this "manual" one for 99.99

I split whatever falls into my roads or pastures. Almost finished for the fall.

Had to upgrade the splitter a few years ago. 45 ton.
But most of my trees are bodock, so its about the hardest you can find. Splitter dont care, splits em like butter.

Will do either depending on when it’s needed. Although, dry splits easier imo and it’s obviously easier to handle.
