My dad has an old remington woodmaster 742 30-06. He's killed hundreds of deer with it and its got some sentimental value. It is no longer extracting casings after firing. I have called a few gun smiths and they won't work on it. Any ideas?

There is a reason they call them hangmasters.

Got one myself, the round has to be removed with a knife. Just put it in the safe and charge it to the game, its a lost cause.

when I was 14 I missed a monster buck with it. I had the opportunity for a follow up shot but it had jammed. My dad likes it though

This is a pretty well known problem. I bought a used 1 as my first rifle for $150 and I don't think it has ever actually fired without getting hung up. I had a gunsmith tell me it could possibly be the magazine, but I never tried a different 1.

I've also never needed a 2nd shot either.

YouTube. I know there's a tiny roll pin that attaches the op handle to the bolt, and it looks like a mofo, just finding a punch that small might be a challenge. Op handle needs to be removed to get the bolt out.

I have 2 of these. I've never had an issue. Only thing I've had I'd a magazine go bad. It won't load out of it anymore. I'd try replacing it and see if that works.

Buy mine. Seriously. Shells eject fine. I want a bolt action .270.

I had one in a .243 for over 30 years. It did the same thing and I had to lay it to rest. Could not get parts for it. I still have my fathers that is over 50 years old in 30.06. Still is bad to the bone. I only shoot it for "old times sake" sometimes.

I have my granddaddy's in .308, he killed a pile with it over the years. I killed a doe with it a couple of seasons ago and I'm going to hunt with it for sentimental reasons this year.
