Finished the hunting season strong with a freezer queen and a couple of hogs. I still need to get some squirrels for the freezer but after that it is catfish, bass, and bream. Might drag my kayak to the coast and chase some redfish. I also need to get some crabs and frogs put up.

I spent Sunday changing my trailer bearings, lower unit oil, soaked my carb, flipped the braid on some rods, changed mono on others, and went through my catfish gear. I'll be tying bream flies after work this week.

I always say that fishing is to kill time until hunting season starts but damn, I'm looking forward to morning beers on the boat. I'm also looking forward to flathead catfish court boullion.

Changed the oil in the outboard today.

Now if I can just figure how to get my livewell aerator to work right.

I’m excited but don’t have that fever for fishing right now. I’ve been fishing Grand Isle since a kid and once late March rolls around my brothers and I would be there almost every weekend.

I still have hunting fever though. A lot of my weekends until hunting season starts will be spent making improvements to my properties.

Growing up dad used to talk about the seasons we go through in life regarding hunting and fishing. Spent many years balls to the while saltwater fishing while not hunting as much. Other times balls to the wall. It seems my brothers and change every 3 years or so. I’m sure I’ll be back spending most of time saltwater fishing in 2 years and will ease up on hunting.

We have discussed getting rid of our place in Grand Isle because there’s just too many damn people on that island now and buying a place in Venice. It would be tuff for us to make that jump though. We’ve fished Grand Isle since we were old enough to hold a fishing and know the island so well and we can catch fish regardless of conditions. Just years of experience knowing where to fish if the wind is blowing a certain way, what the tides are doing, etc

Never get hunting fever
Hunted zero times this year
Murdered the trout all winter
I’m still super excited for beach fishing though

ETA: I have geaux jr on the way so my fishing days are numbered for a little while at least

I would love to have a camp on the island, I plan to one of these days.. but you’re right, it’s a shite show down there during the summer. I love winters down there... it’s quiet, easy fishing without launching a boat, and big arse salty oysters

Pulled out the kayaks today and took Jr. to the river. No bites between us both but it sure felt good.

Does anybody else get a woody from the smell of 2 strokes? Couple of guys parked under a bridge crappie fishing fired up and the smell was intoxicating.

Had to miss this entire deer season so the fish are in danger, and the turkeys are going to pay the price as well.

Only thing better is a 2 stroke running Amsoil or Red Line synthetic.

Been ready since last October. New boat (not mine) is getting finished up this week, so we been anxious for a good weather window to break her in and get some blood on the deck.
