I am not on the new boat because it would have to be 8' long to reach my trailer
Using that deal that goes over the trim dealies right now.

i usually use one on the way to go fish, but not on the way home.
For obvious reasons.

I had a salesman at Cabela's tell me that the flip down bracket is better than a transom that mounts to the trailer. It takes more weight off the transom than those "flimsy ones that slide over the roller." This was a 5 year old boat with a cracked transom by the way.

My lower unit twist and i break these things every time I haul my boat

I need to get one. The only way to get the foot of my motor high enough to tow is to trim the motor up or trim the hydraulic jack plate up. Without the transom saver, the jack plate is the lesser of the two evils, but I still worry that I'm doing damage.

my motor has the little flip down bracket
Does nothing for your transom.

Dude must be an engineer.

speaking of, what is the reason some boats have a platform extending off the transom that houses the motor mounts? does this design help with anything? I know boat length is measures from bow to transom to these boats are technically longer the regulations say. Is this the main reason or what?

Skeeter used to do this so the boat would be longer and the could put a bigger motor on it. I dont know if they still do.
ETA: Adds leverage for better holeshot too

Helps with overall performance and optimizing engine placement.

Same reason people put those jackplates with the massive setback on them.
Motor farther back=boat go faster

Ive got a 2001 21' Century with a cabin.
A little too big for anything around here, but my dad got it for a steal a few years ago. I dont care for the layout and the cabin, if it was center console I would not be yak life.
Need to hook up with some of you salt lifers and use it down there.

All the little flip down motor feet does is save the hydraulic trim rams. Does nothing for the transom.
