Which parishes produce the best white tail deer hunting?
Posted by turnpiketiger on 3/22/23 at 8:01 pm17
Now I’m talking to Louisiana standards. Can’t compare it to South Texas or Mississippi.
From what I’m seeing, Union Bienville Claiborne and Vernon are the top.

Any bottomland hardwoods close to the Mississippi and Red Rivers.
If you are into mature bucks, pull up the Big Game Recognition records. You’ll see. You email that Borderleon dude in the Pineville office for the complete list, because on the state website they only display the last 3 years.
Concordia is a big one.

You are correct, numbers wise.
Quality of bucks, I have to disagree.

Avoyelles parish is where some of the biggest deer I’ve seen in La have come from. Near Marksville along the red river

The biggest buck I ever took in Louisiana was from Thistlewaite in St. Landry. He was 194 lbs. Was on a hunt with my cousins in 87. Good times.

East Carroll, Richland, Madison, Tensas, Concordia, and Avoyelles produce some monsters.
It’s seems recently that Webster, Lincoln, & Red River have been showing up with some really nice deer.

Just curious as to how someone gets on that list? Is that only official b&c scoring or buckmasters counts to ?

I don’t believe the McCoy buck listed as killed in Bossier was actually taken there. Mr McCoy was a member of the Gilbert Clubhouse and hunted primarily there in Franklin Parish.
I could be wrong though.

Be careful hunting Spring Bayou or Pomme de Terre. Them baws will set your truck on fire if they suspect you ain't from around there.

NO buckmasters. All those deer have been scored by certified B&C scorers.
Set it up for a scorer meet with LDWF personnel at a local office. I met scott Durham at the Hammond office. You only need a 130 by gun, a little less by bow. It's not a look at me thing. It's just a record, so that future people can do exactly what is being asked in this thread.

Is the OP looking for numbers or trophy quality?

For most dead does and 3-pts sure. If that's what you're after go to one of the piney woods parishes. If you want trophy's go to where the row crops are grown.

Numbers. I mean trophy quality is nice to know also. But just for the sake of meat hunts.

This is good to know. Thanks for the info.

You can get nice deer in the piney woods if you don’t shoot every single deer you see.
The thing is getting more people to have this mindset. But overall the piney woods do not produce the monsters like the hardwood river bottoms? That’s what I’ve gathered here.
