I am going to buy a new (to me) truck. I have been shopping for a Ford Diesel. I don't have a whole lot of money to spend, so I won't be getting the new 6.7. So, I'm trying to decide between the 7.3 6.0 and 6.4. Anybody have some good advice for me on which one to choose? TIA

7.3 and the others shouldn't even be considered. Myself it'd be a Cummins

Every Ford diesel previous to the 6.7 is a crapshoot if not a downright mistake.

We'll get some folks chiming about how with this mod or that mod they can be made reliable, but I ain't a believer.

if you aren't buying the 6.7, go Duramax.

Oh, and that loudass Cummins sucks, too.

7.3 if you find a clean one. Just traded mine for a 6.4 I like it so far bit the 4.30 gears are not cool

I had the 6.4, never again. If I were to do it again... I'd look harder to find the "right" 7.3

Serious as a heart attack.

DD is a 2011 6.7, love that truck.
Great power and quieter than a church mouse.

That said, I have a 6.0 that's already had all the problems corrected, and it's a great motor. But it costs thousands to have the problems corrected...so...

I would love to be able to afford a 6.7. It's just out of my budget for now. Thanks for the input. The shopping continues.

I'm in the same boat as you. I'm looking for a tow vehicle and not going to spend 40k plus on a thrid vehicle, especially with the amount of money I have tied into my jeep.

Whats your budget? Why a diesel? and how long do you plan on keeping it?

I plan on also buying a fifth wheel camper for the family, which is why I want a diesel. I had an 06 Dodge Megacab with a 5.9, and probably shouldn't have sold it. The air conditioner sucked really bad and after many attempts to fix it and modify it, I gave up. I will not buy another dodge. I am looking at spending less than $30k on the truck and will probably keep it a while. I drive a company car, so I wouldn't put a whole lot of miles on the truck except for camping and hunting trips.
