Where would you guys head to catch a trophy trout with the freezes in texas, mosquito lagoon’s grass degradation, and the Pontchartrain basin turning into fresh water? Seems like some people are still catching big fish south of Corpus and north Florida up to Virginia.

This is where that guy fishing the florabama 24 hour or whatever tournament drove to fish and drove back, so he had his choice of anywhere within 8 or so hours of the Florida Bama line.

Caught my biggest trout throwing topwater around Lonesome Island back in 2003. Black Bay ain't what it used to be (I dont think anything really is anymore).

messed up from Oyster raping and habitat errosion. Not many big trout anymore. It used to rank top 3 nationally for big trout.

I'd go to Texas if I were trophy hunting.

For a trophy,

Lower Laguna Madre, Baffin Bay, and King Ranch Shoreline are tried and true Texas spots. I haven't been in a while so the big freeze last year might have made a difference.

The hyper salinity of those waters tends to grow big ones. I would call some guides in that area and see how its fishing.

No question it is on the Florida East coast. IDC, I don't want the big girls, I want a bunch of nice eating sized fish, let the big girls go.

Agree with this. Caught several 8 and 10 pound specks a few years back. Buddy of mine goes several times a year. I was lucky enough to go with him. Also caught some really nice snook there.
