Depending upon what you're doing with it, I've bought a lot of drops from bercheen across the river for scrap prices.

Their half inch plate will stop fmj.308 at 10ft out of a 24 inch barrel.

Makes great angled targets.

Don’t know if it’s still the case, but when I worked at a fab shop while at LSU, many of the local steel yards didn’t want to fool with individuals.

However- the White Castle Farmer’s CoOp has everything you need, will load you right up, and will be a pleasure to fool with. And- from Plaquemine or Gonzales, it’s not that bad to get to.

Do you have it designed already? I'd have a shop cut the pieces to the dimensions I wanted as it would be much easier to handle. A sheet of either of those thicknesses is going to be heavy as hell.

draw the pieces in CAD and send them to LA cutting on Jeffrey Drive.
if the pieces are small enough they may be able to cut a drop

Hey man I appreciate it. I ordered a front bumper, and want to make a skid for below that bumper to cover what the bumper doesn’t like a lower Valance skid, I’ll have the bumper today or tomorrow to take measurements.

It’s more important what happens to the plate after being shot by a rifle than whether or not the bullet is just stopped. If the 1/2 plate dimples and becomes concaved very quickly it can become dangerous to shoot.

What the OP needs to look for is hardened steel. I get all my supplies from ShootSteel.com. Hardened AR500 3/8” thick plates have stopped everything I have fired at them (at a reasonable distance)

I buy metal at Hebert Steel regular basis. Pretty easy in and out. They always cut mine to length

This is sound advice. I work in the crane biz and your average steel distributor is looking for customers in the tons-per-month size.

There are however smaller distributors that will work with individuals and smaller contractors.

Yeah, it's not whether it stops "A" bullet. It's whether it's going to be so pitted that the 2,154th bullet returns to sender. Angled AR500 all the way. It won't dent, so even the 2,155th bullet will splatter against it and the angle will direct the energy toward the ground.

This, call tell them what you need and you have a Cad File for it. Its MUCH easier to go there and get it already cut. It's probably more economic to have them do it as well. If you can get it dimetcoated* (primed) that's even better. Also, for a number skid plate you should be fine with 1/8 or 3/16 plate.
