re: When did boat prices get so high?
I have a buddy owned a big boat company, ( you know them) after crash of 2007 could not give them away so starting making dozens of loaded 30 foot plus 200-500 k cruisers and sold out. Used the profits to save the company.

What does that tell you

I am looking right now as well. There are a ton of used boats out there that are good deals. Look on Louisiana sportsman’s classified.

re: When did boat prices get so high?
same with buying trucks

as long as there are idiots still buying no matter how high they raise the prices, they have no reason NOT to double and triple the price for no other justification other then, them idiots are still lining up to buy them so its time to raise the prices even more.

if smart people stop buying them and prices will drop in half, but it requires the morons buying at any price to stop buying so .......

re: When did boat prices get so high?
That’s why I rebuilt mine after it flooded in Aug 2016, new boat prices were ridiculous so I used insurance money to rebuild/replace gauges, seats, rehab engine on my current hull.

Buy used. You will pay the true value while the suckers pay for the rest.

re: When did boat prices get so high?
The boats aren't that high it's the engine all the accessories and rigging that drives up prices, 20k+ for a outboard, 2k to 4k for anchors, 2k+ gps/fishfinders, 2k+ trolling motor, trailer, batteries, stereo, charging system, it goes on and on. Some of you would call me crazy if y'all saw my SCB build sheet I'm sure but it's what wanted and I could afford to buy it so I did and we love it.

re: When did boat prices get so high?
Around 2000’s when the government changed emission standards the cost of motors went up.
You have some elite brand bass boat models closer to $90k
Sad part this takes a lot of middle class people out of the sport of fishing.

Now I have a used 5 yr old progator bassboat around 18ft with fairly new lowrance electronics. The motor was trashed while to boat was in great shape and bank repo. I got boat, trailer, and piece of metal on back called a motor for $4,000. I found new 150 hp evinrude etec 10 yr warranty to repower with for $10,000 on dealer blow out.

Total cost used but decent boat
Boat , trailer, pcs of metal called blown motor. $4k
(Bank wanted $12k I paid $4k cash deal due to motor had blown powerhead)

New motor after taxes, registration fee, rigging $11k
Had boat polished and fiberglass chips fixed. $1k
New tires, new hubs new trailer boards. $1k
Taxes and fees. $500
Total $17,500

re: When did boat prices get so high?
I've never felt like there was much wheeling and dealing at a boat dealership vs a car dealership. The price just sort of always seems to be the price unless on maybe a used boat which is weird because at those prices there has to be a huge markup on boats.

Am I wrong in this assumption?

re: When did boat prices get so high?
Shop used and be ready to buy. Good deals don’t last long. My 2008 SeaPro was sold brand new in 2009 for 25k. I bought it from a guy in Biloxi who only put 70 hours on it in 2011 for 16k. Boat was practically brand new. I plan on keeping it for a long time.

Keep looking around.....be ready to ounce on a good deal.....laugh at all the dumbasses paying on a boat for 15 years.

Just keep searching until you find a deal too good to pass up. Its out there, bought mine from an old man in southern comfort. 2012 skeeter 22', NADA was $41k, picked it up for $29k. Aint too hot on the color but who really gives a shite about that. Its almost paid off and does exactly what I need it to do. Actually picking it up from the shop today for yearly maint

re: When did boat prices get so high?
Bought a 21' skeeter new in 2007. Went to the houston boat show this past weekend and boats and layouts are still pretty much the same. Posters are right there is more equipment on them than before. Better trolling motors and power poles and equipment but the boats are still very much the same. I don't see myself buying a new one unless I ran into a whole bunch of money. Buying a lightly used 3-5 year old boat for half the price would be the way to go. If I fished all the time maybe it would be a different story. Now I did see a pontoon boat with a 400 hp engine on it that I can say would be worth wild. Just to say I had a 400hp pontoon boat. lol

Are you set on buying new?

If your looking to get back into it alot of good deals can be had on boats with low hours that are only a few years old.

Search around, give it time if your not in a hurry and you will find something.

LA Sportsman, FB, Craigslist were my go to places until I found what I wanted

You'll catch more fish using a bateau with a 9.9 hp motor, but you won't look as cool doing it.

At the upper end of that, you're definitely in used/reconditioned yacht territory.

And, you can fish off a yacht.

re: When did boat prices get so high?
Unless I found a steal, I'd prefer to buy new only for the warranty. I've had enough boats in the past to know that warranty on the motor means a lot and usually between factory and dealer you can get up to 6 years. Also would prefer the newer SHO engine.

I'll prob keep my eyes open for a steal for a while then make a decision.
