.22 Marlin that belonged to my Grandfather when I was about 12 (1972). It was the gun I learned to shoot when younger and it was passed down to me when he passed away. I still have it.........

My first firearm was a crack barrel .410. I got that when I was about 5. I actually got that before I got my first pellet gun. My parents later told me that the logic behind that was that I was not allowed to shoot the shotgun by myself so a responsible adult had to be with me. The pellet gun however, I was on my own with that so I couldn't have that until I was a little older and more responsible.
This will probably be the approach that I take with my child in a couple of years.

Marlin Model 60 .22. Maternal Grandfather's gun. Love that gun. It's a squirrel killing tack driving machine.
After that 870 Express for graduation from HS.
Things took off from there.

Marlin bolt action 22, 7 round mag. 50's vintage sold under brand name Ranger marketed by Sears.
I got it in 1978 at age 11. Already had a BB gun and a Benjamin .22 pellet gun at that time.
Nostalgia: $5 for a brick of .22 back then. My dad bought me one per week, which I shot every week.
Living in the country as a kid was pretty damned cool.

20ga Wichester autoloader, I was 7 or 8. I couldn't shoot it without help for a couple of years, though.
