not talking about luck as in bringing in limits over limits. but something weird that happen or something highly unlikely that went your way to help you bring a fish in the boat?

a couple of weekends ago a couple of friends and I were fishing reds in vermillion bay and came across a bobber off in the distance. we were trolling the north side of the bay and one of my buddies got hung up so we trolled right by the bobber to get his spoon unhooked. we got the spoon unhooked and drove right by the bobber again, that bobber didn't move one bit. we started fishing and trolling to the west and my buddy then spots the bobber moving back and forth so we went back to it. we pulled it up and sure enough about a 21" red was hooked to it and it had 9 spots.

Many years ago when I first started fishing the marsh, I had 2 rods going solo, when 1 rod gets pulled over the gunnel and into the water. Undeterred I tied on a gold spoon with a treble hook and reeled all the way into the first eye, leaned overboard and reached down as far as I could and "swept" the bottom until I hooked my rod. Pulled into Boat and reeled in an 18" red....

we were tuna fishing one night offshore. got a yellowfin to the boat and it broke off. All the sudden a rod in the back went off. Someone hadn't reeled in all the way and the tuna got tail wrapped in that line on it's way back down. We landed it the second time.

Similar story, we were fishing the jetties out front of Grand Isle one morning when someone in the boat had a fish break off their line above the cork but never spotted the cork again. The next day we were back at that same spot and the cork was there, so we started casting at the cork to try to hook it and ended up catching other trout in the process, probably caught 10 trout before someone hooked the cork and reeled it in with a keeper spec still attached.

I once caught a goggle-eye on a beetle spin, but not on the hook. The part that snaps together where you slide on your jighead had come un-clasped and the part "hooked" the fish.

Happened twice, and both were during the same summer, different lakes:

Hooked a fish during a small local night tournament (some call it dogfight) and got it halfway to the boat when it lunged and broke the line. Continued fishing and not more than ten minutes later saw a fish struggling on top of the water like it was injured and couldn't swim. Trolled over to it, netted the fish, removed my hook from its gullet, and put it in the livewell. Both times fish was in the 4# range and helped me get some of the pot.
This was about 12 yrs ago and hasn't happened since.

We were heading in from a somewhat unsuccessful tuna trip. When we were about 30 miles out we ran across a huge whale shark in open water.

There were so many yft around it you couldn't sink your bait for more than 10 seconds without getting hooked up. We killed several 100+ lb fish that trip.

In high school went to leeville fishing. Uncle told me we may not catch a thing. Had an ice chest slap full of specs and a few flounder in no time. One of the first times I had fished brackish water. I had only fished freshwater until then and couldnt believe the amount of action. We couldnt catch them fast enough. Made a huge impression on me. Havent had another experience like it since

I used way too light of a pole to punch cane in Venice. Snapped off about a foot above the reel setting the hook. Didn't break the line (thank you power pro) and still put the fish in the boat, with the rest of the rod against the hook.

Also, I lost my favorite LSU hat while making a run. Saw it floating near the bank about 3 hours later and saved it. That makes up for the 10 other times I lost a hat and didn't.

ETA: Added to give just a good fishing story. Went trout fishing last week (I'm definitely no trout fisherman) and ended up catching a limit of bass. Was a very pleasant surprise and they fried up really well.

Hooked up to a nice bass during a tournament that wrapped itself around a submerged tree branch several times. It was flapping on top of the tree branch half out of the water. Against all I know about fishing, I gave it some slack and let it wiggle off before boating the fish. I was about 20 yards from the tree branch when that happened. Ended up taking big bass at 4.65#.

I shouldn't have caught that fish, but sometimes they just stay on.

It was pouring down raining and a slack tide. Girlfriend asked what do we do while we wait for the tide to change?

FYI. The leaning post is the perfect height.

Also, we're married now and don't fish when its raining or a slack tide.

I should also add the thousand times I've seen a treble hook less than an inch from my face. Close enough to hear it and feel the wind but was never hooked up until this point.

This spring I was fishing with my son and hooked a nice bass (3# range). Got it up to the boat and he had the net in the water waiting for me to get the fish close enough. The fish pulls loose from the spinner bait and my bait shoots straight up in the air. I yelled out the "F" word and I don't mean fudge. My son pulls the net up and says "daddy, I have the fish." It had swam straight into the net.

I make my own inline spinners so I tend to value them more than lures I buy from the store.

I hooked up on a big red in the kayak. Took off running through the grass and popped my line, taking my lure with him. After some cursing I moved onto the next pond about 100 or so yards away and cast out a couple of lines with dead shrimp under cork and was just kicking back and relaxing. Big red grabs one of the shrimps and takes off running. When I finally get him in the kayak, what do I find?

At a summer camp when I was a young boy. There was a downed tree behind the cabin that went out about 10 yards in the lake. Used to fish there when we had a break. Another camper had dropped his rod and reel in the water, only 3/4 ft deep. I get my zebco 202 combo with one of those already made up grape worms with the beads and two hooks in it and try to snag his rod and reel. Reeled the worm tight to the end of my rod and went back and forth in the water as far as I could reach. After about the fifth time I did this a big bass grabbed the worm. About 3-4 lbs.
Grandad takes my brother and I out to do some trolling on TB. My brother tries a ultra light spinner as his tackle. Grandad advises him if you hook up don't try to horse him in. Well he hooks up and gets the bass about halfway in and the line breaks. We stop the boat and reel all lines in and I have his line caught in my bait. Brother pulls the line in with his hand and in comes the fish.

Fishing with shad rigs one day.

My grandmaw hooked into a fish, and somehow the line just broke.

A little while later somebody else in the boat hooks up. As they get it close to the boat we all realized that his hook was actually just hooked onto one of my grandmaw's shad rig hooks... the other hook still had a redfish on it.

A couple years ago out of Delacroix we were pulled up against the bank throwing out into a canal. The tide was going fast out if a little bayou into a pipeline. We were catching nice black drum , and the occasional red and trout.
I got a call and reeled up not far enough, and leaned my pole against the boat with the bait about 3 ft from the bank. The pole flips out of the boat. Brand spanking new rig.
I tie a treble hook with bellsunker and for the next 2 hours threw all around the boat trying to snag the rig; no luck.
My two friends were catching hell out of fish while I'm doing this. When it was time to go my friend took his last cast and said Hmmm this feels strange. Reels in slowly, yells at me to reach down and get my pole. He had snagged it through one of the eyes about 8 inches from the tip. But there was no fish on the line to make it a grand slam lucky thing.
