We are looking at buying a piece of property in North MS. Went and looked at a place on Friday that is 100 acres with a pond.

probably 60 or so are hilly and their are 40 or so that is flat in a big bottom.

The "lower 40" have been clear cut.
The upper is mixed open with scattered hard woods, thick woods and also pond is there.

So, would likely be doing some planting food plots in the lower 40 and bush hogging the upper 60.

I'm guessing I will need a 60ish HP tractor?

Do ya'll think that would be sufficient?

It will be a Deere.

Two reasons.
Deere is a very good customer of mine.
Dealer would only be 15-20 miles away.

Just remember no one has ever said they have too much tractor. You can’t say that about the inverse

How much open land is there? If you’re really cutting 60 acres, I’d be looking at something that could handle a 15-ft batwing easily. 70Hp min.

Buy a used older tractor it won’t have the bullshite EPA stuff on it plus made of steel and iron not plastic so if you hit small trees you won’t crack the hood or break the lights

Plus I just love the sound of these old tractors

Do not underestimate the effort to keep that up. You will need a batwing.

Depends how open the land is imo. I have 130 acres but maybe 5-10 cleared between roads, plots and barn area. My 47 hp kubota does great and is still nimble enough to get into the trees. If I were mowing large areas I may have went bigger

A batwing would be nice, but with that little bit of land, you certainly don't need one.

Start with the implements you want and work backwards see how much HP and PTO hp they need

I have125 acres and started with a JD 4105 (41 hp) it was on the small side but sufficed , I then bought a 5055 (59 hp) with a cab, it is more than enough

Tractors are a lot like other things men have, the one you have does the job and is big enough, but everyone wants a bigger one
