What do you feed your dog?

About to pick up our new puppy and i’ve Been researching dog foods.
What food do you use for a sporting breed?
How much difference does a high end dog food make long term? Obviously I want the best for our little guy, but I also don’t like spending money that I could put to better use for my dog.
TIA for the input.

I used to feed this...
It was pretty good food.
Now I feed this...
I switched based on a website reviewing all the different dog foods.
It has made her coat better but her breath worse. I don't know if it's worth it, but it's on auto order now from chewy, and I like it enough not to go through the effort of switching.

Taste of the Wild salmon blend. It's pricey but their coats are nice.

My wife has a Yorkie mix and I recently started feeding him wild hog. Every time I kill one, we grind it up and freeze the meat in quart bags. Once a week we brown and bag and keep it in th fridge and just give him about 1/2 a cup each morning and night.
It’s free, easy, and better for the dog.

I feed the pro plan large breed puppy, will be switching to Victor when he turns one.
He's full blood lab and currently 120 lbs at 11 months.

So I know dog food can be a bit polarizing but here's my thoughts after reading countless forums on field trial dogs.
On recommendation from my vet, he said for a lab he recommends feeding large breed puppy until 5 months then switching to standard large breed until 1 year old. His reasoning for this is during those first months the large breeds like labs can grow too fast for their joints and bones. Large breed puppy is supposed to help with this. He recommends switching from that after five months when most of their growing is done because they can get really fat on the large breed puppy.
For the large breed puppy I chose nutrisource as it had the best ingredients for large breed puppy.
Check out dogfoodadvisor.com its pretty helpful.
I haven't chosen which standard puppy dog food I will switch to after this however.
For the regular grownup food. It seems like most pro dog trainers use purina pro plan however I have to assume that is due to heavy sponsorships. Many others who want a little better ingredient list either use dr. Tims, or victor hi performance pro.
I am going to use victor hi performance pro as it is a little cheaper but has a much better ingredient list than pro plan.
Also you can find victor at Jefferson feed.
As a final note I'm trying to avoid feeding grain free unless I have to. I don't think it's necessary unless the dog is showing problems with regular food. I also didmt want to start grain free and then switch to non grain free.
My suggestion to you is do a little research for yourself on dogfoodadvisor.com and make the decision for yourself.
Retriever training forum is where i found most of these suggestions.

My parents feed their dog raw, frozen chicken wings/thighs/drumsticks and some high dollar kibble.

We feed our dog raw meat, vegetables, and fruit. I don't geek out on it like some people but it's relatively inexpensive and it gives me something to do. Sometimes I even get protein for free. Just recently someone gave me about 50 pounds of whole white trout. I'll spread it out over a few months but all together that's about a months worth of protein.

I buy the Authority Lamb and Rice Formula from Petsmart and I'm happy with it.
