OK OB experts, I was cruising google earth and I see these huge open fields. From street view thew are simply plowed fields. It seems the acreage would be worth a fortune being so close to campus and proximity to downtown B.R. I cant believe crop value would compare to the land value.

This.

Had corn and soybeans when I was working there. Plowed and bushogged them fields many a time. Best damn job I ever had.

There were so many golf balls up against the back of the course

The dairy right there though shut down and I’m pretty sure they park buses there now. Probably only a matter of time before all of that is retail or parking.

You may be wrong. It's been 6 years since I worked there but pretty sure that's vet science farm land and they let plant science plant corn for the diary every now and then. I guess it might be Ben hur since its all ag land. I thought it was under the vet school though

Maybe it is now but the pasture was where new tennis courts are.

That whole section south of the dairy house was silage.

It's a shame they are chopping that land up. My best 6 years of college were spent on Ben hur research station.

They moved all the dairy operation (by Alex box) elsewhere except maybe a few for ag classes. I’m pretty sure anyway.

Damn that’s a shame. I worked a couple of Fenbendazole studies on dairy cows there. Hate to see the “A” in LSU A&M going by the wayside, but seems that’s what’s happening. All the horse pastures at the vet science farm are gone and the dairy too. End of an era.

i SLAUGHTERED the wood ducks in a little slough. Hundreds of them would land every evening. Easy limit. Wouldn't do it often so they kept coming back.

They moved all Dairy research to the southeast research station and kept just a few head for some classes. The only research farms available for students now are on Ben Hur. It really is a shame to see the dismantling of the agricultural programs at LSU.
