Went on a fishing trip on Saturday

We went 28 miles south out of Destin (about a 12 Hour Trip there and back)

Holy shite red snapper everywhere (had to throw them back in)

We caught all kinds of shite

Dolphin (mahi mahi)
Grouper
Tuna
Mingos
Snapper
Triggerfish
Amberjack
Scamp

Unbelievable fishing day

However, we got pulled over coming back into the Destin Harbor. They searched our boat - No worries there BUT my fishing License was 3 fricking days expired and they slapped me with a $70.00 citation.

I live in Destin but if you do not live in Destin and decide to go Fishing, make sure to get your license because they are checking out boats very heavily this year.

on the awesome fishing

I was in Destin around Easter. What are they doing at the harbor? I noticed some dredging equipment. Are they widening the mouth of the harbor or just routine maintenance?

They are making a man made san dune which will become a park with restrooms and picnic tables. they are encouraging people to doc/party there. It's going to be real nice when they are finished with it

fwiw $70 isn't shite for being in possession of federally regulated fish without a license

He could have fricked you a lot harder if he wanted to. I'm guessing you were polite and he felt you didn't let your license expire on purpose. It happened to me in Mississippi one year, they just took my fish and let me off with a warning because they were training a new cadet. Now I have it to where Mississippi is up for renewal at the same time LA does it every year so I don't forget.

We had 2 boxes... one with the bigger fish and the other box filled with lots of mingos... Could only keep 4 Triggerfish. 1 per person (which sucks because I love Triggerfish)

Took the Triggerfish up to Dewey Destins yesterday for lunch and it was amazing

Had to google it myself because I had never heard of a mingo. Apparently another name for vermillion snapper

Taste better than Red Snapper IMO - Mingo Snapper, Beeline Snapper

Well shite I thought someone took a pic of the box but I don't think we did. Still looking.

I actually thought I had a 5 year license. My brother and I bought our licenses at the same time and we both said to each other that when it expires we are going to forget about renewing so it makes sense to just buy a 5 year license. I guess I didn't have much common sense that day

I saw the progress they're maiking on Norriego Point and it's impressive. Looks like they left a short span open on the west side and it's eroding bad already. Any reason for that? Crab Island was ape shite at 1215 yesterday too. I was jealous I wasn't there and driving west

Grouper sandwich FTW.

Dewey Destin's and Harbor Docks are my staples there.

There's a green jeans posted up in the Destin Pass basically half the year Friday through Sunday. Easy spot to check a ton of people quickly.

One tip is to enter the pass with no fishing rods showing. Less obvious that you are fishing. I have a lifetime license so I don't care, but saves you time.

ETA: I'm not positive, but I believe norriega point access into the actual Destin harbor continually was filling with sand. So they had to continually dredge it so the larger boats could come and go. So they decided to drop some rocks and extend it to hopefully curb the issue.

They basically extended it from a chinese pecker to a black guy.

From what I have heard.... The Emerald Grande (2 big buildings that everyone complains about and calls them a monstrosity) has a boat that carries people back and forth all day to Noreaga Point and by them doing this all day back and forth it has screwed up that area at the mouth of the Harbor.
