Isn’t this one of the worst things about morning hunts? I love morning hunts because you can hunt as long as you want really. During peek season I’ll still most the day. But the first light is horrible. You sit for 30 min in the dark and then it slowly starts getting light. You hear so many sounds it makes you think as soon as it’s light big daddy is gonna be standing right in front of you. As it starts getting light of course every yankee weed and privet limb looks like a 150” or pig or whatever. Wish it was just a switch flip and BOOM. Everything is lit up.

TLDR: IST is bad luck for me. I’m trying to pass time until shooting light

Man I feel exactly the opposite. I get amped up after the decoys are out and we’re waiting for the clock to hit that magic number.

I'd have to disagree. I love hearing and seeing the woods wake up. A few years back I heard a deer walk in and could see the white above his head. I could hear him crunching acorns but could only see the dark blob moving. Had to wait about 20 minutes to see that he was legal and arrow him. I was shaking so bad Idk how i didnt spook him. I love it. That may be one of the only bucks (I've only killed 10 or so, no monsters) I've killed at first light. Most have been between 9 and noon.

I know what you mean. If I don’t make any noise getting into my box stand, I can see a lot down the shooting lane.
What’s really frustrating is staring at a large black shape or two, 200 yds away and it disappears before good light. Or it stays until you see it’s an effen BEAR, That just stuffs his fat arse for another hour.
I have done this and just as the black thing moves out of sight , I see the horns!!!

A mesquite bush had me pinned down for about 10 minutes yesterday morning with all the fog.

Every drop of dew hitting a leaf sounds like a deer biting an acorn.

Now that it’s light I love it. But damn that 30 min in the dark with only my ears and imagination to see what’s going on around me

Man I couldn’t disagree more. Nothing better than watching the world wake up around you

Maybe my rambling was confusing. I’m talking about before it’s light. When I can’t see shite or appreciate what I’m hearing. Maybe I’m just being negative because the first 2 days haven’t gone as planned. Still thankful for the opportunity

I still disagree with you. I love when I settle in and it’s still dark. Makes me feel like I got up early enough. Biggest deer I ever shot (7 pt) I still attribute this day to me being in the stand earlier than usual. As soon as I could see the food plot I saw him. It was still way too dark to make out if he had antlers or was a doe or what. It was a good 45 minutes before I saw what he was. If I would have arrived at normal time, he probably would have heard me coming in and booked it.

30 minutes? Hell I get in there sometimes hour and a half or 2 hours early. I fill like i'm late to the morning hunt if I only make it 30 minutes before day break.

There’s absolutely nothing that gets my adrenaline going more than hearing that first gobble in the dark on a spring morning. Nothing like hearing a bird go nuts off the roost while the sun creeps up.

I'll stroll in around 8 after I've had a nice breakfast and cups of coffee. The deer don't seem to mind waiting for me
