My wife (no pics) is wanting to trade her Lexus for another luxury sedan. The Lexus has been good but the front end on the new models is a deal breaker. She is trending toward the Volvo s90 Inscription. I am not mechanically inclined but I have concerns about the 4 cylinder super charge/turbo charge. Does anyone have general experience with Volvos or any specific knowledge pertaining to the s90 Inscription.

We have one Volvo and have owned two others previously. The xc90s are pretty and well appointed. The seats are great and if you drive long distances, you will really appreciate the ride.

That said, the best Volvos, in my opinion, are the naturally-aspirated ones. You start throwing turbos and super chargers in there and the reliability goes down.

Previously, they had a 6-cylinder in the 90s, which is what we have in the xc70. It's a solid engine, though maybe not as bullet-proof as the 5-cylinder. I can't really give you much information on the new 4-cylinders, except to tell you that you are wise to be cautious. Volvo has changed as it has gone from Swedish, to Ford, to Chinese ownership. Not sure the changes have been good, but we still enjoy our xc70.

Having owned one with a 4-cylinder and a turbo, I can tell you that the performance they got out of that little engine was pretty impressive. It would scoot. It would also ding you for a sensor or something ($250+) every six months with regularity.

Brickboard.com is a good place to do some research.

Why do people say turbos reduce reliability?

Millions upon millions of diesels scoff at this.

As an aside- we just got rid of my wife’s 180,000 trouble free mile Eco Boost Fusion for a 200t Lexus. I believe it will be every bit as reliable.

In the end, modern manufacturers don’t make junk. The stakes are too high now.

If there was any negative to a Volvo is that they are Chinese owned. I have no reason to believe that the quality has been compromised- but by now, Geeley has probably put some of their supply chain in place.

We are on our 5th and last Volvo we'll ever own. They are now owned by the Chinese and my bride won't have it.

I've never had a turbo and will try to avoid them as long as possible. My pops had two cars with 'em and they both blew a turbo. One was a Volvo wagon, one was a Stealth Turbo (was a heck of a car otherwise though).

The new S90 are really nice looking though.

We were in the market at this time last year for my wife a new car. She had an MDX that became my daughter's.

We looked at the Volvo but ultimately chose the Audi Q7. Love that car so far.

We bought a CPO S90 about 2 months on it, so haven't had much time with it, but so far we haven't had any problems with it. We got the T5 and that little motor was scoot that car. Its a great ride too.
