I had the same idea once, but from what I found, most of them are in shite condition and there are better deals to be had looking elsewhere.

If you are dead set on one, there are about 1000 of them rotting in a field right on Hwy 190 in Port Barre.

Sounds like a surplus supply of cheap trailers for that giant mini trailer park idea I just made up.

Yeah it kinda sucks that the federal government would rather let them rot than try and recoup some of our tax dollars. Surely there are some that are in decent condition

don't do it. My buddy bought one cheap $1000 a few years back it was in great condition. The smell never went away and with in 2 years the trailer was falling apart. Roof leak , couch broke, did i mention the smell!

its doable.
my camp is 2004 FEMA trailer, but:

-i gutted the inside
-i installed a new plywood subfloor and installed FRP over the walls & ceilings

its actually holding up pretty well in a very harsh environment

nice set up. I was just happy to buy his old camper off of him for $800. He just caved and bought a new one last year.

i bought one so new it still had plastic on mattresses
used it for one year- hunting camp maybe 6 times- next year water heater caught on fire, roof leaked, some lights went out with wiring problems had trouble with stove and blew fuses when trying to use small space heaters- good luck ( oh and you cant walk on roof to reseal)

One of the guys at our camp has one (forget the manufacturer),but it's been in place for 5 years and he has not had any issues. It really surprised me.

I was looking for RV's on Craigslist last summer and came across a few of the FEMA trailers in Kenner (i think) that were for sale at $9,000--never used, plastic still on the mattress, allegedly no formaldehyde, etc. I thought that was overpriced, but not sure what your budget is.

That's nice but I'm talking about the ones from the last flood. Not the travel trailers from Katrina. Sorry for the confusion

I was under the impression they are recycling the ones from Aug 2016.

Bought a new one years ago for $3500. Was never lived in. Have it set up on Old River. Never had a problem with it. I did build a full roof over it. Got to move it out tomorrow due to high water.

I bought a couple of the handicap models with slide outs for $4000 at the auction in Carencro that is now a Fedex place. They are well worth the additional grand spent for a camp. Lot more room and bigger shower. Still have the usual Cavalier rot issues and smell

Unfortunately, they are not built to code, so they cannot be hooked up to a meter. You can really only use them with a generator.

None of what you said is true, ive used one as a camp for 6 years.
The meter is on a pole with a outlet the camper plugs into and i have a generator that's been used several times when power went out.
