Before I order my CDS dial from leuopold I need to find my true muzzle velocity so that the dial can be fine tuned as possible.

I don’t necessarily want to buy a chronograph to do this, does anyone know of a place/range that has a chronograph to rent?

You don’t believe the manufacturer? I just rolled with what is printed on the box

I believe it to be fairly close. But the ammo box says it the tests were performed with a longer barrel than what my rifle is.

Some YouTube videos demonstrate how true velo can be +/- 10-15%

Do you feel the CDS dial is pretty accurate having used the listed velocity?

It’s better than me guessing for sure. I have not tested it at 500+ yards.

There are calculators online for mv correction based on BC of bullet and drop between two known points.

Same situation for my 28 nosler. The box says 3300 FPS out of a 26” barrel. Mine is 24” so I had my dial made for 3,250 FPS. Dead on out to 450 yards. I haven’t shot it past that yet though.

If you can’t get ahold of a chrono then the rule of thumb is 50fps per inch of barrel loss.

I used one of these when I bought mine. I was shooting down hill into a lake. Just push start when you pull the trigger and stop when you see the splash. There is actually a little lag from when your brain registers the splash but that is negligible. You do have to know the exact distance to where the bullet hits. After that it is pretty simple math. Good luck.
