I've got a male German Shep/lab mix, I've had since a pup that hates to ride in the truck and whines like a little girl the whole time.
Now, I've got this female Westy Scottish terrier that somebody dumped out on our road and we adopted, she loves it.
She's a great sweet little dog, but I bet they talk about me behind my back at the feed store.

I would like to get the male mix to ride more. Is there a way?

This made me laugh.

Could be worse. I had a lab that loved to ride in the boat or bed of the truck. The only problem was she got so excited she would shite. She wouldn't hold it.

Funny at first, but try riding to the duck blind before daylight with a hangover and she drops a deuce on the front deck with the smell hitting you right in the face.

yeah, put him in the truck and go. But you may get him acclimated quicker if you let him ride in the cab with you.

Then the other guy says " yeah, I saw..and she had a rhinestone studded pink collar. Did he buy any catfood?

Jealousy is probably the best tool. Anyway you can putt around with the other dog while the male watches you feeding it treats?

I'll start giving her some treats when she gets out of the truck.

One of my sons has 2 Goldens and one will have to be forced into the SUV or Truck. My Husky/GSD mix loves to hop in for a ride. Actually he will hop in anybody’s car. He loves to ride. When he hears me grab my keys he runs to the door.

My lab loves to ride. She sits in the front seat like a person just looking ahead as we drive along

My GSP’s on the other hand can’t stand it. I think it’s because they’re constantly in hunt mode and can’t stand not being able to investigate all of the things that get their attention on a drive.

Has the dog ever gotten car sick? It happens to some people so I see no reason it can't happen to a dog.

I had a dog that would pant and shed like a MFer, especially in in city driving in ATL. This didn't happen when I lived in BTR, but Buckhead traffic started the anxiety pretty quickly. You can't exactly drive like a Nancy in the metro area, and it traumatized the dog permanently. However, the same dog was fine being on I-45 for four hours (although I did build a platform to put in my old truck in the backseat so he could sleep on his own bed on long drives on a completely flat surface.)

It's usually just basic training/conditioning that you could train out of the dog, but it's going to be work, and it may not work depending on the dog, it may not be effective. You'll have to spend a bunch of times putting the Shep in the truck and not going anywhere, then putting the Shep in the truck, starting the engine, and not going anywhere, yadda yadda.
