When is the earliest ya'll have seen the trout move inside to the lakes and bayous? Marsh Man Masson posted a video on LA sportsman claiming they have moved inside already, I find that a little hard to believe. Would be nice, I hope i'm wrong

Didn't he only catch like 2 trout in that video? I'd be skeptical too

Word from the old timers around the camp has always been once water temp hits 78 degrees, they are triggered to move in. Nothing to back this up whatsoever.

I don’t know exactly when, but I know it’s not the end of August

There will always be trout on the inside - depending on age and sex they move differently. Not sure why Todd believes some pattern is starting. Biologists believe 75 degrees is when they start moving, and then winter patterns start around 62.

eta: We need some cooler weather to even get things (water temp) started.Could be Sep or Nov depending on weather we get and it obviously changes a little based on where you live.

Fished the sound last week and the trout were very much still on the outside. Don't doubt that SOME are inside, but in any great numbers? idk.

usually its the second cold front in october but if you get an early cold front it can be sooner

bottom line is the water temps, not air temps, need to drop and that alerts the fish to move farther inside to warmer waters for the winter

just ignoring the weather if you assume middle of october you will find good fishing and by holloween it will get better and stay good all the way through until mid january and start trailing off fast as they start moving back to the beaches again

Yeah I just watched the video. 3 whole trout. never heard of the water getting down to 78 or 75 degrees. That's good to know. We still have a ways to go for the temps to go down

Catching a handful of small trout hardly means they are in. Hot temps in the shallow Marsh will keep them on the fringes still. Lake Borgne has some fish but they aren’t thick in the bayous yet. A cool front will change all that. And the white shrimp will also draw them in

Fished Venice last week and went to my ace trout spot where I always catch trout from 3rd week Sept on in Yellow Cotton Bay. Did not catch a single trout. All the guys catching trout were out at the rigs or Breton Island. So I would say they are definitely not inshore yet in any numbers.

However, didnt catch any trout but I tortured the reds. Caught 120 in 4 mornings.

Many things contribute to the migration of trout inside. End of August is a little early but I have seen trout in Hopedale as early as Labor Day. Not big but the start. The last several years seems like it is October. Photo period, water temps and bait all matter.

100% this. Also it seems that everything is getting pushed back with the seasons. Later summer, later winter, etc.... Just casual observation.

Completely agree based on where I fish. Cant remeber if it was 2, 3, or 4 years ago, but it was so warm we didnt see shrimp or trout at their peak until early December.
