Think I sheared the pin in my trolling motor on a trip this weekend. Go to take the prop off and holding the prop does not stop the shaft from spinning to loosen the nut.

There is a flat head screwdriver slot but it must have been over-tightened and can't get enough on it to turn the prop nut.

Any ideas on how to get the prop off? Cut it?

TIA

An impact driver may have enough torque to spin the nut without backing. The pins I've seen generally sit on the inside face of the prop. You maybe be able to push against the prop towards the motor and get it to grab enough to break the nut loose. If those two don't work it maybe time to cut it.

the flat head screwdriver slot is to keep the shaft from turning IIRC

Happened to me once, had to cut the prop off with a hacksaw.
