Has anyone here either actually been charged with trespassing, or know first-hand of someone who's been charged with trespassing, for fishing over purportedly privately owned water bottoms?
Sorry for poking this turd again, but I'm curious about whether this really happens, as I've never seen it.

Not fishing but duck hunting. A bunch of times in Mecca and once down on the bay here in TX.

I've wondered about this as well. I used to fish some narrow little canals around the mouth of the Pearl River by the Rigolets. Always good for a red or two. There were "posted" signs, and I always assumed it was related to duck leases. Always wondered if I'd get shot for trespassing. Never did see another soul back there though.

Yes. Last year he fought the citation in Lafourche parish court and lost. The judge sort of kicked the can down the road, but ordered him to pay the fine. I won't say the name, but I've had multiple phone conversations with him on the subject.
The area in question is a relatively large body of water with plenty depth and accessible to just about any size bay boat. He's now >$5,000 into the situation due to fines and lawyer fees.
Consider the ant nest kicked!

I know 3 people that have been ticketed. 1 in lafourche
2 in plaquemines.
I know of 4 that have been ticketed being too far into our duck lease st bernard...

back in the old days its the only way I fished. Would apologize and offer to give the fish to owner or put back in pond.

I personally know 5 guys who were ticketed in cameron parish for being in some private marsh. They are all currently fighting the charges in court. This was during a redfish tournament FYI...
