Just put out a predator line sunday, planning on running it for a month and then a month of beaver. Anyone else doing any trapping this year?

Where do you sell your pelts? Been curious about this for awhile. Raising rabbits for meat. Wondering if there is still an outlet for tanned hides.

im not... still have all my traps hanging in the shed. I loved trapping so much, even more than hunting. Especially running coyote lines.. such a rush, for those that have never done it, think running a trout line... but 100x better

I hope you have time to build a season-long thread with pics of some of your catches. I enjoyed and looked forward to your updates last year.

I'll try to start taking better pics but here are the last three days. Didn't think about my phone until after several were already dead. I'll try to do better. Only running about a dozen traps right now. Next line I may get a little more frisky.

So here is monday. Started off with a decent cat, once again forgot about pics until after it was put down.

And here is what I brought home. Enjoy the pics of the possum, normally they don't make it this close to the house before becoming lost. Final count 1 cat, 1 yote, 2 coon and 3 possum

Tuesday
Someone shot this one before I got to it and was nice enough to cut off its foot and leave it laying beside the trap. Same trap as the coyote from the day before. People are stupid,2 days straight someone has shot a yote here. This one spoiled by being dead in the sunlight in 60 degree weather. Plus another rare view of the elusive silver fox as my friend calls them.

About 2 miles later down the road. Same trap as the cat from yesterday.

This morning

I considered starting back up this year but not really worth it. I wish mink and coon were fetching better prices, I would be back on the line. Good luck to all you that are trapping.

My uncle had been sending his pelts to Canada but got tired of the hassle. Is there somewhere down south that still takes them?

I ship up north to NAFA. If you can flesh and dry it, they will normally be top price. Just never know how long until it sells.

Man I trapped like a mad man as a kid in North La , coons were my target and I terrorized em. Also caught a few fox.

We used to average about $18 per hide (coon) but I heard they went way down. We also had a badass coon dog.

What do coon hides sale for now ?

I am an amateur to trapping, so forgive me, but when you say a predator line or running a line, do you mean a (Line in your mind ) through the woods?

Dam son, you're good. I wish I knew how to successfully trap yotes, foxes and cats. Catch a heap of coons with those dog-proof traps when I set them once and a while but that is all.

Nice job... you got some wildlife there, and you got it figured out!

No wonder no one can do a good cat mount. They got a silly sour look on their face already.

We are predominantly ag with swamp & some timber tracts mixed in. This year is the worst year I can think of as far as coyotes. I didn't see any deer hunting but my neighbor to the north is absolutely loaded. It does worry me because I have never had a predator population significant enough to pose a problem to the turkeys & quail outside of hawks. They do kill deer but we have so many damn deer there is no way they could hurt the population. I have a local who is the trapping extraordinaire. I talked to him Sunday about putting out traps. He & his brother are going to start trapping.

ETA: I have 4 hog traps but you have to get pretty crafty with them to catch anything nowadays. Hogs are too smart these days. I have over the years managed to get 450 lbs of hog in a trap that is roughly 3X6.

Only 1 yote and 1 skunk this morning, and I'm scared to skin skunks so I didn't stick around long enough to take a pic of the skunk. I need to find a way to take better pics at 4:30 in the morning.

If selling green in the country you're only looking at 2-3 dollars. Not really targeting them unless I'm already going to be on location and then I'll put out some easy sets just to thin them a bit. I'm going to be hanging on to mine for a couple of years until they bounce back. Averaged 14 last year for put up and I think in a couple of years I should be able to up that by a few bucks.

Line is just a shortened version of trap line. It is just the route that I run. Some trappers can have lines that run over a 100 miles a day covering quite a large area. As for predator line, it just means that I'm targeting bobcat and coyote with the set type that I'm making.

Be more worried about possum, skunk and coon than coyotes. Those are the real nest predators. Coyote will eat them if they find them but are lower on the list of causes of mortality.
