Anyone else have problems? Sometimes it feels like it is sticking in gear or starts in a higher gear than it is supposed to. After it warms up it is ok, but it feels like something might be wrong.

They are known to have issues with the clutch wearing/failing prematurely.

More common you see it with the 1000 model but id assume both have the same transmission.
Honda needs to just go to a CVT and get away from the DCT

700’s are not DCT, they are more like a normal cars automatic trans...same engine and trans as Rincon 4wheeler, just different gearing.
Probably something simple, that trans has a very good reputation.

When was the last time you changed the oil?
If I go passed the recommended time on the oil change, sometimes mine will act like yours. Also check and make sure you are not low on oil. I’m by far not a mechanic, but the transmission runs off the engine oil on the 700 and when the oil breaks down sometimes it will shift funny.

No they aren't.

You couldn't be more wrong.

They really do.

To the op, what oil have you been running in it, what's your change interval, and have you ever swamped the unit?

If your answer is a non Jaso MA rated oil, longer than 600 miles, or yes.... Change your oil and filter and cross your fingers.

All auto hondas shift funny until warm. Motor oil being used as transmission fluid is the culprit.

ETA: the only real issue with a 700 transmission is if you run it in reverse more than forward, after 500 or so hours it will knock a perfect hole in the back of the cases. It is very rare. 1 in about 4000 units.

I have 2016, but have had no issues. Had a guy stop me at a gas station last week and ask the same thing. He has a 1000. Makes me worry a little bit, however I am anal about maintenance and when the service light comes on I always do the oil change ASAP.

I had it changed and everything serviced before deer season.

It was changed and serviced by the honda dealer. I talked to them this am. All 2016 and some 2017 have a recall on the clutch. They also told me that if you let the bike heat up for a few minutes it will make the oil in the transmission less viscous and that might fix the problem. Assuming it is not the clutch problem.

Only problem I have on mine is the 4x4 continuously giving me issues. 2x4 works fine and 4 low but not 4 high. Was in the shop twice last year for this and not its failing again.

What Pioneer 700 do you have that has a dual-range transmission

1000s.

Not 700s.

There has never been a transmission recall for the 700. The only recall ever was battery related and I believe a fuel mixture screw.

I'd have to go back and look, but the benefit of that underpowered design is that it is effectively bulletproof.

That sucks I was hoping that the recall could be a quick fix.

Judging by what the dealership told you I'm assuming you brought it to GN?

And not south side or over at friendly?

If so I would bet more on the wrong oil being in the bike. If either one of them did it it's just the cold weather man you might not even have that many miles on that unit yet. They do get better with age

Never going to be as smooth as the Yamahas or as jerky and clanky as the 1000s.

I called my dealer in Natchez. The guys at GN said the same thing.

The guy on the phone thought I had a 1000 when he was talking about a recall.

That's because they are idiots.

My money is they gave you 20w50 instead of 10w30/40 when they did your oil change.

That's why it is so different when warm.

Bumping this thread for some answers. . I swamped my pioneer 700 this weekend and after flushing and getting my oil to where it should be I filled with royal purple 10w 30. The transmission wasn’t working right and this is where I found out about using specific oil. I flushed my motor again and changed oil (used the recommended oil) and filter. and I am still having the same problem. Do y’all think I should flush again with diesel because there may just be some remaining royal purple causing it to slip?
