Me too. We have GPS marked several of the low spots we have been catching fish in for when the water comes back up.

eta: This is NOT what this area looks like now. Circle Dr.

Speaking of, when using google earth, the best you're going to do is 11/1/2006. In that one, the hump on the far side of the red/greens at Tenn. Bay is exposed. Bug Island is a true island.

Heard the water was up 2 feet but also heard this:

SRA needs money so they will run generators which takes water.

Also heard the water was being released to stop the salt water intrusion that moved north due to the drought.

I didn't read the link but heard this from someone that has a business on the lake. TTFWIW

We canceled our White Perch trip this weekend because no one wants to idle through boat lanes to get to fish.
And Green Jeans is checking everyone at certain launches for violations.

Bummer, the Sabine is still navigable but you had better know what you are doing. We just drove the truck out across the dry lake bed to the hole we were catching them in.

We don't learn from our mistakes, particularly when there is money involved.

Will the white bass still run in sabine river this spring even though the lake is so low.

I think the only reason they are here right now, we at least in our spot, is they can't get anywhere else.

Is the lake dry all the way between the river and Tucker's Lake? There used to be some good brush piles back there around Tucker's. Haven't fished down there in years but a bunch of the good white perch spots were in the river channel up by Circle Drive. I've also heard about some good duck reports from a couple of the holes out in the middle of the Texas Side near Tenaha boat row, but with water levels right now that's a lot of walking and humping gear.

“We’re throwing this water down the Sabine River into the Gulf. It’s excess water for the needs of Sabine River basin parishes,” Bollinger said.

Bollinger is a dumbass. This is the kind of person we have in charge of our state's natural resources.

quote:

If the terms are met and agreed upon, the SRA could net about $54.7 million a year. The SRA reports that in good years, its annual budget is about $4.5 million.

So what does the SRA plan to do with this 1100% profit?

His statement sure makes it seem this way.

The brush piles that have been sunk are probably no longer at the right depth to hold fish

you are correct.

made 6 new ones thanksgiving weekend, ready to try them out. There are limits now on the amount of power they can generate at certain levels and actually at lower levels it is not safe for the generators to run. currently the sra (sabine river authority) of texas and louisiana (yes there are two of them) have access to use 1,000,000 acre feet of water each. so without getting into surface area dropping as the lake level drops and assume the lake area stays at ~185,000 acres each state can sell/use about 5.5 ft of water for a total of 11 ft per year. currently la is wanting to contracr 600,000 ac/ft to sell and there is nothing from tx RIGHT NOW. TBs watershed was on the eastern edge of the drought last year as i saw the MS river and locally the red busting at the seams while lhe lake continued to drop. the sra has to maintain a certain downstream flow in the sabine river for downstream use. also this year there were 100 100+ degree days which increased evaporation rates.

now i am a realist and understand that the lake was built for the purpose of generating power and do not have as big of a problem with them doing that. now when they have the capacity to use/sell 11 ft of water per yr i have a problem with that. luckily i am on deep water but alot and i mean alot do not and no longer have waterfront property. the main boat roads are still scary to me even with ~2ft rise since thanksgiving. what concerns me most is the lack of stops in place to limit and even stop the flow once the lake reaches certain levels. tha low water has already had a huge impact on the local economy and will continue as we start to approach tournament season. several tourneys have already been relocated.

on the plus side the fishing has been phenominal the last year and a half. i have caught and seen more big fish in the last year than ever in 30+ years of fishing on tb.
