Any ideas of cost for decking a trailer

You can get a heavy gage expanded metal sheet for cheaper than lumber these days. And it will never need to be replaced.

$2000 is cheap compared to what you will go thru to make the camper frame functional and it will always look like a hokey rig.

To wit- I’m starting to build an airbag trailer because I don’t want to spend $10k on a new one for the little I’ll use it.

I’m also a jam up fabricator with a big shop, plasma, access to materials, lifting equipment etc.....and I still buy a lot of fabricated stuff because it’s so damn easy to buy it already built.

How long is the longest vehicle that you would be hauling? Could you load them crossways instead, and get it balanced out? That way, you only need material to park on. Brace the overhang up on the frame. No need to deck the whole thing.

i bought a house a few years ago and the guy left 2 camper trailer frames. I had grand ideas. And every friend that came over wanted one if I decided to get rid of them.

Long story short once we really looked at the work it was not worth it. Finally had guy take both of them. My .02 is that the labor and material will almost cost as much as buying something new

It depends on what type of material you already have around to work with, and how well the frame was built. I've seen a few of those that had stout frames and some that had weak junk. The older ones seem to be much better.
If it were me, and the vehicles were short enough, I would make it a side loader, and just attach 4 pieces of wide channel, or some of that perforated metal ramp material, like you see on car haulers, across the frame and be done with it. If the vehicles are 8' long, or less, it would be legal, even a bit longer would probably be fine. Campers are probably a bit wider. I wouldn't try to make a fancy trailer, but good enough to haul those 2 vehicles securely. Of course, that depends on how well that frame is built. From what I've read of Rando's posts, he seems like the kind of guy who would be a good judge of that frame, suspension and axles.

It was originally built to hold 6200ish lbs or so of camper.

I'd say it weighs sub 1k now.

Bearings turned out to be good. Brakes are shite. Fine by me. I don't need brakes.

But I was just given 16 8ft pieces of 1x4 box tubing. So metal costs are no longer a concern.

Plan on taking 12 hours or so on saturday night to see what I can come up with.

I don't think the issue is with the I beams themselves, more the fact that nothing is tied together properly.

Did some measuring last night, I'm going to cut 12ft or so off of the trailer, square everything up, and move the mounts 10ft or so forward.

With lateral bracing every 1ft or so, it should stiffen up a lot.

Also going to see if I can get my hands on some clean 1/8th tank steel.

If I can, I'll drill holes on the edges and plug weld it... If not, I have to find more

I've got big pasty calves.and big thick ankles too, and when I'm doing stuff around the place, and wading off into scrap piles to look for ideas or pickin blackberries, I occasionally wade into some chiggers and stuff like that too. To look at me, you probably wouldn't think I'm much either, but I've done things and can tell about things that most folks can't even imagine.
Lots of folks think I'm a liar too. Those are usually the kind of folks that can't even do simple things like math, convert fractions to decimal without an electronic device, things like that.

Do you often share pictures of your kankles with the internet bragging about the hundreds of toe raises you can do and share made up stories of your sexual conquest?

No, but I'm old and I'm not very good on these computer things. I wish I had photos to show of some stuff, I would damn sure do it and brag about it. Taking photos and getting them developed wasn't always so easy.
You know though, there aint nothin wrong with some bullshittin either.

It did. It was just a thread about trying to do something with some leftover parts and pieces, then it became a personal attack on the OP. Doesn't make any sense.
