Do yall hunt during the late morning to abut 2 pmish during a full moon cycle?

Seems deer eat about every 4-6 hours and they are at my food plot and corn piles all night leaving about 4 am. I'm thinking of some midday hunting this weekend during the full moon.

Thoughts?

I kill about 75 % of my deer between 10:00 and 12:00.
For years I typically got out of my stand about 10:00,I went to a guy’s house and he had 5 really nice bucks mounted that he killed at Saline (Dewey Wills). He told me he killed all of them around 12:00.He would get in stand around 9:00 when everyone else was leaving the woods and get down about 3:00 when everyone else was coming back in the woods.
I still like to be in stand for daylight but I rarely see a deer before 9:00.
I’m the only one hunting 300 acre property so it doesn’t seem to be a pressure issue like it would be at Saline.
That is not just during the full moon,it’s the whole season.

All good info so far. On a full moon, the mornings are usually not good for movement. I would sleep in and hunt about 11 till dark.

Now, if you know your pre rut & rut dates, i'd try to be out before daylight, but you must plan a happy medium between sleep & hunt. Forget nite campfires and drinking. Sleep, hunt, go home. Only 3 activities.

The 2nd largest buck I've ever killed was killed at 8:00 the day after a full moon. So I guess you never know.

I'm always afraid that if I sleep in I'm going to miss something, so I try to get in at daylight and stay as long as I can, even if that means sitting all day.

Then your deer should be back feeding at 8 to 10 am then?

The whole full moon thing and deer hunting is a myth. It makes for a good excuse if you don’t see deer you can blame it in the full moon. Just go

I don't have anything to hit it with, but I always see one every month or so. It's pretty bright, hard to miss.

I think the Chinese were the last to hit it at the end of last year.

You can believe that, but i have studied, tested and followed the moon up theory since the 1980's with Jeff Murray. Conducted controlled tests in Kentwood. Jeff is right on.

Big difference between moon up (overhead) and full moon. Deer aren’t sitting around all day during the full moon saying damn I wish I could eat something but I have to wait til dark since it’s the full moon
It’s a wives tale

Thats part of the overhead/ underfoot theory.

Its just that the full stage has spawned all sorts of rediculous claims.

But between two people who understand the Murray theory, we can differentiate

There was a study between LSU, Auburn and the South Carolina DNR that pretty much said this. They tracked deer from August to December for 3 years. What impacted deer most in relation to the moon was it's position, not it's phase.

That study seems to confirm (or at the very least, support) the Murray Moon Guide.

Personally, I've never noticed much of a correlation with moon phase. I've seen more deer from 9 to 2 than I have early morning or late afternoon. When it comes to the moon, I pay more attention to those major and minor periods than I do phase, and those seem to be pretty accurate. However, I believe there are too many factors that influence deer movement to pin it on one single factor.

Hunt at midnight

Was my first tip.

Next tip is just hunt all day. I have gotten to the point in life where family commitments keep me occupied for a lot of the time I used to spend hanging off the side of a tree. Now I just plan on hunting all day. May make a move at some point to another location, but sure as hell not getting down to go take a nap at camp. I’ll just nap on the ground by my tree or strap myself And my equipment in really good, say a prayer, and catch 5-10 minute naps in the tree.

That's going to happen this year. I have a cargo trailer I turned into a camper. Going to drag out there when the weather cools down and just hang out all day. Take a nap in my trailer. Make a day of it.

Thanks all

Son and I hadn’t seen an elk all day Sunday. The moon came up real big late in the day, and 30 minutes later he’d killed his first bull.

I pay attention to the moon chart. On a youth hunt years ago, we went and got on a food plot surrounded by a pine thicket at 11:00 am. As I was pulling the door shut, two little ones came out. Five minutes later, the kid shot a big doe.
