re: Thoughts on the S&W Bodyguard 380?
May take a look at Kahr CW380. Wife has one, very compact. Needs break in, but solid gun after that. Pretty accurate for pocket gun also

You're right, .380 is the same as a BB gun or slingshot.

So you're saying the OP just needs a good slingshot.

Problem solved.

re: Thoughts on the S&W Bodyguard 380?
It sounds like you're not new to guns, but just in case let me point out a few things that not everyone apparently knows re: 380 pocket pistols:
They're small.
They can be difficult to shoot.
They're snappy.
They're usually not "fun" to shoot at the range.
They can be "finicky."
Although the 9mm is recognized by most as a better self defense gun, no one on the OB wants to get shot w/ a 380.

OTOH, they can make fine cc guns that will fit in nearly every fromt pocket (I prefer front pocket carry over rear pocket), unlike the Shield, Sig 365, Shield EZ, Glock 42/43 or any other single stack 9mm.There are times a pocket 380 is one's best gun for cc. While my Kahr CM9 fits in most pockets, the CW380 fits in all pockets and is much lighter.

I don't like external safety levers on a pocket gun. After using a Kel-Tec P3-AT for a number of years for cc, I've moved to the Kahr CW380. The Kahr has a DAO type trigger pull that has a longer trigger break than a Glock type trigger, but I like that on a pocket gun. It doesn't have an external safety lever. Try to handle a couple of different 380's before buying one.

CM9 top. CW380 bottom

You are correct. But, I don't have much experience with the 380. In fact, the only one I've ever shot was my buddy's LCP which for some reason would slam the trigger guard into my index finger every time it fired. I do understand these aren't "range" guns and would really only carry it when I couldn't comfortably carry my shield. I don't care for Glocks. Nothing wrong with them, the grip angle just doesn't work for me which is why I tend to stick with the M&P's. My favorite pistol is my Ruger 1911. But, I don't carry it much at all due to its sheer weight. I'll take a look at several and try to shoot as many as I can before purchasing one. Thanks for the help.

Kahr CW380

Surprised it took so long for this one to get mentioned. I think it’s one of the best 380 pocket guns out there. The LCP2 is a welcome improvement over the original but it’s not quite as smooth as the Kahr.
