Thoughts on M&P compact 2.0?
Posted by UpToPar on 12/12/17 at 10:06 pm20
Thinking about picking one up. Sportsman Outdoor Superstore has them for $399 right now. I know they were supposed to have an improved trigger from the first generation and are comparable in size to the Glock 19. Anybody have one?

That + Apex + Trij HDs is about as good as it gets right now

When y'all keep recommending gen Alex trigger do y'all mean just replace the actual trigger or internals too?
Replacing the internals sketch me out. I have yet to find a trainer who doesn't bash on worked on guns due to reliability issues

Carson, you think $399 is a deal? I’ve never bought from sportsman outdoor superstore, but they look reputable enough. That’s the cheapest I could find by a good bit.

Everything.

i don't know, every class I've taken has been okay with it. No reliability issues and I've always shot at or near the top of my classes. Apex + RMR is like cheating. Heck, Frank Proctor shot an Apex'd 2.0 Compact in the class I took with him.

yeah, 400 is below wholesale cost, so with no tax is a no brainer. transfer through Sulzer for $10

Oh no I'm not stating anything about their performance. There is no doubt they are better performing triggers. I've also never had a class turn an aftermarket trigger away.
Now let me restate that every major malfunction I have seen first hand was due to some modded glock trigger and this is when the instructor usually used it as a chance to preach how they thought an aftermarket trigger in a self defense gun isn't necessary.
It's happened two separate times with two separate instructors/companies.

I have one. Love it. Pew pew pew.
I got excited when they came out, but I already have the full size. I came very close to pulling the trigger but after thinking about it hard, I just can't justify owning the full size and the mid size. Just doesn't make sense. Full size and shield makes more sense.
I fondled one a few times at a few different stores and they are sweet.
ETA: 399 is a deal, they were as low as 435 on promotional sales when they came out then demand shot them up to 499 quickly.

I think most can understand how it may make someone nervous putting in non-factory parts. But from what I’ve seen with apex and every gun I’ve installed the forward set sear and trigger in (I installed Carson’s as well) they’ve been great. Some require a bit of tweaking after install but that’s usually rare. Plus my personal m&p core has had a forward set sear and trigger in it for about 3 years now and that thing runs like a top. I’ve never had a trigger failure of any kind and it’s extremely easy to shoot well.
As to the OP about the new mid sized one, that will actually be my next purchase. In my classes I’ve found that females tend to favor my fiancée’s VP9 over some of my other larger guns. The mid size category just seems to be a better all-around size even though you wouldn’t think it’s a huge difference. $399 for the 2.0 is a steal.
Midsize and shield makes more sense*
Just busting your balls but if the 19 is to the compact as the 17 is to the full size
I have a 19 and a shield where I carry the 19 99% of the time and the shield the other. I think if I had the 17 it would be the other way around.

This is my thinking. My wife much prefers to shoot my shield over my full sized glocks. I think it just fits better in her hand. I like having the option to change grips on the compact and I'm thinking she should be more comfortable with the compact with a small grip insert over the glocks and hopefully more accurate with the compact than with the shield.
quote:By all means it does, but after stepping back and looking at the two, there wasn't enough practical difference between them to own both, and I'm not one to sell a gun. I have and am considering trading them out though.

I doubt I'd carry the 2.0 Compact because I'm pretty sure the grip would tear my side to pieces.

The term you’re looking for is grip taper. I talk about it in the link below. When the grip is thinner at the top it’s easier for smaller hands to grasp. Where the Glock is a flat slab-side the M&P can have a nice taper and be thin throughout.
The shield doesn’t have much taper since it’s a single stack but I can see why if she had small hands she would favor it. A tapered grip on a nice double stack can be very useful for her.

That probably has something to do with it. My two glocks are .40 and the shield is 9mm, so that probably also plays a role.
I think I’m going to pull the trigger on this deal. Now I just need to decide if I want to throw an apex trigger on it.
