I know we talked about they cant shoot the snake, but instead of grabbing it with bare hands they cant use a long stick or paddle to hold him down?

Ratings and good video. Just how on swamp people they always have the shooter shoot the gator with a .22 and water goes 6’ in the air. all they did was shoot water, but it sure looked good to someone on a couch in California.

And having every gator thrash all around before they shoot it.

I got gator tags a few years back in the lottery program and had to sit through a safety/rules meeting when we picked up the tags. First thing green jeans said was that its nothing like you see on Swamp People. Line down, pull up the line slowly, and shoot it as soon as the head breaks the water. Its incredibly non-dramatic IRL but that wouldnt make for great TV

I missed the thread about why they don’t shoot them. What’s the reason for this?

Wish it looked good enough for them to start buying our damn hides again

Same reason people sight fish redfish with light tackle instead of a bazooka - catching snakes by hand is more fun.

Meh, if I see a 20ft python that bastard is getting a load of shot dumped in him.

Not so according to the sites I went to that outline how they can be captured and removed. They can be shot and the recommended method I found was by using a shotgun since the snakes kill spot in the head is not easy to hit, especially if in the water if using something like a .22 caliber gun.

I love the show and I often wonder the same thing about using a gun. It does make for good tv no doubt. I just hope the Louisiana swamps don't become like the Everglades and end up destroying native wildlife.

Looks to be easy money. Good money too if that’s accurate prices.

The weights are way off though.

I think we are just a bit too far north for the snakes to get a good foothold. A friend of mine had a 10+ ft. Burmese Python as a pet in an outdoor cage and in the winter he had a couple heat lamps he turned on when it got cold.

Well, they went out of town for a weekend and it got below freezing here for 2 days and when they got back home, the snake was dead. He later found out the breaker tripped and lost power to the lights and the snake froze to death.

Exact same point I made to the wife last night. They were saying those snakes were averaging 10 lbs. a ft. with the weights they were showing and that is WAY off.

They had Bruce holding one snake in the bag by one hand that they said was 11 ft. long and over 110 lbs. and that ain't happening. Those snakes don't average nowhere near 10 lbs. a foot.

Are we talking about invasive species snakes like pythons? They have regulations about how you can get rid of them?

We enjoy those shows, but they are so fake if you pay attention.

They show the weight and length of the snake on the screen. Was watching last night and every snake troy and co caught were over 100lbs, but when they went to put the bags in the back of the truck, they lifted them up and over one handed with ease.

Forget about using a gun, why can’t they even wear some gloves?

The snakes always seem to thrash around (probably provoked) but then they settle down and the hunters appear to grab the snakes behind the head pretty easily.
