I drive a Sierra with the baby LS 4.8. Its dependable as hell but very underpowered. My friend has had 2 tundras with the 5.7 and it's a damn beast of a truck compared to mine. My next truck will most likely be a Tundra.

To be fair, neither Chevy nor Ford were rated on the passenger side here? Not sure if there is a reason for that? Also, when you look, it's very explicit that the only area where the Tundra suffered there was specifically foot/lower leg area...

"Most unsafe" is a bit of an overstatement there... particularly given the additional comments:

quote:

While the GM trucks scored better for the passenger-side tests, and dummy evaluations showed a lesser likelihood of injury, their body structure was still deemed Poor, as it was for the Tundra. Similarly, the Nissan Frontier scored Marginal for both driver and front passenger in the small-overlap tests and mustered an Acceptable for the seats and head restraints.

With regards to the roof, it scored a 3.94... a 4 was the cutoff number between good and acceptable. The Chevy Colorado scores a 4.03 (don't see a number for other Chevy's - Ford and Honda definitely were substantially higher with 5+ weight multipliers)... We're not talking about a huge discrepancy though for Toyota and the criteria for "good".

I have a 3/4 ton Ford that hauls more, pulls more, costs less, and gets better fuel mileage.

I could make an argument easily that the tundra is one of the worst.

Its basically a 3/4 ton truck, motor has gobs of hp and torque. Transmission is bulletproof, motor the same,

Except it lacks the towing and payload capacity, brakes are no where close to the heft of 3/4-ton units, the rear axle is weaker than the 9.75" Sterling Ford uses in 1/2-ton and 3/4-ton options, the transmission is no stronger than any other used in trucks of that class, and no truck engine should be using a timing belt.

Almost nothing that you said was true nor fact.

They last so long because they are some of the most underpowered trucks on the market. They tow less than any other domestic truck. They are dated as shite and offer little far as comfort is concerned. Who gives a shite what their resale is, smart people dont buy trucks as investments. You admitted that you have to buy bypass kits for two previous trucks because they have design flaws, but oh well.

Go play in traffic.

I feel the same way about my last two Chevy’s. They burnt almost as much oil between oil changes as the oil change itself. That’s among a few other minor problems. lol

Only thing I've ever heard about the Tundras was the secondary air pumps going bad and making the trucks go into limp mode. $2300 fix from the dealership

more like 5000from the dealership that damn thing was covered to 150,000 miles. Mine went out at 156,000 miles. fricking Toyota would not cover it. Luckily here in Franklin,TN, there is a shop with a former head of service at a Toyota dealership and they are like 1/3 price. I have really liked my Tundra and have had it for a long time now,but it has not come without any issues.

Hated my 1794 Tundra. The dash looked so cheap. The screen was terrible. It got dog shite gas mileage.

Hey buddy, dont have to get like that with me. I'm sorry if I didnt pass some sort of right of passage here as a new poster but I was open to suggestions from the get go.
Sorry if I offended but I'm just talking about my experiences with the Tundras.

Ive come to the conclusion before buying my Chevy, that there are Toyotas that will frick up prematurely, same as there are Chevy, Fords, or Dodges. Get the cheapest one with the best warranty and local service, and hope for the best. I bought the Tundra because I wanted 200k plus miles out of it. That didn't happen, regardless of what everyone claims.

Didn't your truck just go in the shop?

Evidently the LS motors had an issue with the built in pcv valve in the valve cover and they have since made an updated valve cover. I had to put one on my 4.8 on my Sierra and the cover cost me $280 but my oil consumption has gone to nill.

And you’d think the same if you had a 4.6 Tundra instead of the 4.8 Sierra. You are comparing to different engine levels.

I have driven a 4.6l Tundra as well and it was quite more peppy than my 4.8l LS. I'm sure it had more to do than the built in lag in the wire control throttle body though.

As I have suspected from the beginning this is a troll thread. Good job though you have had several bites.

It has the worst crash test rating of all full size trucks, I rank not dying of more importance than anything else.

It also has the worst gas mileage. It also drives "big" compares to a F150.

It is very reliable.

re: The Tundra is the best full sized truck on the market. (Change my mind)
I'm not trolling anyone man. As I stated, my fishing partner has had 2 Tundras, newest one is a 2019, and I have had a F150 with the 5.0, another one with the 3.5 EcoBoost and a Dodge with the 5.7 Hemi. His trucks have been much better than any of mine by a long shot and towed way more effectively than them as well
And he just traded in his 2011 for the 2019 and had 239000 miles of hard towing and Baton Rouge traffic and never ever had one issue with it the entire time which is why he chose a 2019 model for his next truck. Still had the original serpentine belt on it as well.
