I can't quite tell how many hummingbirds I have.

Anything over 2 dozen or more is hard to count. Anything below, I just count how many I've actually seen at one time and almost double it.

Above I said I've seen the same 4-7 day in day out. That's from actually seeing 4 on the feeders, one leave one direction and another show up from the opposite direction.

In other words, I'm just guessing.

One of these days I'd like to go out and get some good photos of hummingbirds. I'm sure this wlll end up on my long list of things I'd like to learn (photography at a decent level).

Mine have finally calmed down enough for multiples to feed at the same time.

Same here, must have 20 zooming in and out of trees..have had 5 on same feeder at a time. I've only had feeders up 18 months but this is by far the most birds I've had at one time

About two weeks ago my population exploded. Have somewhere in the neighborhood of 50-60. They are drinking 54oz a day between 3 feeders and I can't keep up.

I've tried getting some pics of them but my lens just isn't good enough. I just got a Nikon d3400 with the stock 18-55 lens. What do I need to get some good pics from 10-15 feet away?

We dont have near that many, but our 2 have grown to probably 5 or 6.

Put the feeder next to a window so the 2 year old can look. Going outside to watch just scares them away so I can't be totally sure of the number.

Probably have 4-5 here in the NE burbs of Hou. I was thinking this cool front would have pushed them south.

We put out our first feeder yesterday after noticing a few and it's been nonstop, I had no idea they were so territorial and have no problem with defending it.

What type of hummingbird is that, that you pictured above?

Is our area not typically in their range?

Buff-Bellied. People in S. La. report them often. I have never seen one. The Winter range includes a lot of South La.
Looks like they migrate backwards. Someone should tell them.
