As far as I can tell, a single suppressor can be used for a 5.56, 22LR, and 5.7... is that correct?

It seems to good to be true.

simple answer - YES

however getting a suppressor for rimfire/5.7x28 and having a different suppressor for 5.56 is a much more popular setup.

The reason being that suppressors rated for 5.56 are larger and heavier than suppressors rated for rimfire and 5.7 only.

What are you gaining in having a single can for each one? Is it better ballistic performance or lower dB's?

I am a newbie to suppressors and have no clue to the specs or details.

rimfire is really dirty and just about every rimfire suppressor is made to be disassembled for cleaning. Some centerfire suppressors are but the majority are not made to be disassembled.

Also a centerfire suppressor will be larger in diameter and heavier than a rimfire suppressor.

for each one as in rimfire vs centerfire? Its that the weight and overall size of the suppressor will be less with the rimfire can.

Don't get too caught up in the dB stats. There isnt a standard for measurment so everyone goes by a different measurement method.

general rule the larger the volume of the can the greater the suppression.

Just get 3 and you're covered

30cal
45 or 9
rimfire

While you can shoot rimfire through whatever can you want, do not do it. Filthy

Cans dedicated to certain weapons is where most people who shoot a lot gravitate towards. It's the route I would take today.

I prioritize sound and weight over size. Bigger usually equates to a better sound if you are comparing cans with similar quality and you really don't notice an extra inch or slightly larger diameter.

This. You want a dedicated rimfire one for sure. Very small (think a cigar) and made to be cleaned. A 30 cal will cover a lot. Then a pistol caliber can.

two things you need to be aware.

If you buy one can, you will soon own more.

Under no circumstance buy a rimfire can with aluminum baffles.

A good number of suggestions already.

I agree w/ getting a dedicated rimfire can for this very reason. I'm in the process of cleaning my Spectre II rimfire can for the first time. It was overdue, but I was still amazed at how much lead there was in it.

If you plan on shooting rimfires other than 22 LR (for example, 22 Mag, 17 HMR, 177 WSM, 5.7 etc.) be sure your rimfire can is approved for those calibers. Mine is approved for those, plus the 22 Hornet.

I have 30 caliber cans for my 22 centerfires and 300 BO.

That gets very expensive. I started out 13 years ago and thought a 30 cal can and a 22 would do for me. I bought an AAC 762SD and a Silco Sparrow. I started buying one every other month for over a year. After about 9 months they started rolling in pretty quick. I stopped at 11. My last one was an FDE Omega that Silencer shop had on clearance right after their fallout. I had a black one already but loved it so much I couldn't pass up the $649 price.
